Did You Know...

... that Amnesya and Aurora compete for Italy and Sweden in 4-way Open in Norway?

Amnesya at the Italian Outdoor Nationals 2022
posted Jun 27th, 2023 - The NSL Power Rankings in 4-way Open of the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 in Voss, Norway, needed a few adjustments, after more information became available. 18 teams were listed on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard when the previous NSL Power Rankings were posted on June 22, and the number has gone up to 22 at this point in time.

Three more Dutch teams have joined national 4-way Open Class team Out Of The Blue, and Italy will be represented this time, as well. There was no 4-way Open Class team from Italy at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022, after a perfect record of participation at outdoor world championships since 1985.

The implications of the corona virus crisis were probably the reason for the absence of a team at the FAI Tanay Mondial in 2021. Italy did not recover with a 4-way Open Class team at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022, and the return of Amnesya to international outdoor competition at the FAI World Cup in Voss, Norway, is a promising indication for the next outdoor world championship in Israel 2024.

The Dutch delegation of four teams now matches the maximum number of teams in 4-way Open that the U.S. delegation consists of. Amnesya is the only 4-way Open Class team from Italy, and one more team is registered for the 4-way VFS event.

Yellow: National 4-way Open Class teams

Amnesya at the Italian Outdoor Nationals 2022

Aurora at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022
Amnesya have the potential to be one of the two top contenders for the European bronze medals in 4-way Open. They will challenge the Spanish national team, Papea, who finished behind Chimera in 6th place at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022. Chimera have no adequate 4-way Open Class successor yet in Great Britain and for the outdoor world cup, which brings Amnesya in contention for the European bronze medals.

The Italian team takes the position of Echochamber Oceanside who had finished one single point behind Papea in Eloy last year. The Swedish team was expected to battle once again with Papea, this time for the 5th place and for the European bronze medals at the same time.

However, Echochamber is not representing Sweden in Norway. Aurora takes the place in 4-way Open and will not be able to challenge Papea as Echochamber have done. Aurora will probably try to get as close as possible to the Top 10 positions, which alone is a very challenging task, considering the visitors from abroad, U.S. team Lightspeed XP, and the two well trained teams from Qatar with their new lineups.

Sweden with Aurora will make the Top 10 of the European nations, where the 8th place could be the new ranking position after the completion of the outdoor world cup. Echochamber and Aurora have been on the same leaderboards at every single meet of the eight events that Aurora attended since 2018, including the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022, and excluding only world championships where only one national team represents the country.

FAI bronze medals in 4-way Women in Australia 2018: Team X
It will be the second time that Aurora represent Sweden at an FAI event. They traveled from Sweden to Germany for the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2017, together with another Swedish team, C4, who won the internal duel. Sweden did not make the Top 10 of the European countries, as C4 finished in 11th place of the nations rankings.

It was not the same Aurora lineup in Saarlouis 2017. Current members Filippa Ebersjö, Åsah Helenius, and Zoltan Hubsch competed in Germany, with Markku Glans on camera. Former Team X member Bodil Almberg joined the team in 2019. Bodil Almberg still has more international competition experiences than her Aurora team mates.

Team X competed for Sweden in 4-way Women at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2016 and missed the bronze medals a year later at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2017. Team X finished 4th again at the FAI European Indoor Championship 2018 and eventually won FAI bronze medals in 4-way Women at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2018. Team X then posted the team's highest meet average (24.3) at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2019. Echochamber competed at the same international FAI events in 4-way Open that Team X attended in 4-way Women. This time, Bodil Almberg will not meet Echochamber in Norway, and she represents Sweden for the first time in 4-way Open.
