Did You Know...

... that two more British 4-way teams were not sanctioned for the outdoor world cup in Norway?

A Class in 2018: British Army Volt4ge
posted Jul 5th, 2023 - Volt4ge, the current signature 4-way team of the British Army, joined the meets of the Unite Kingdom Skydiving League (UKSL) in the summer of 2018. The first lineup started with a 4.5 average on the A Class leaderboard and lifted the scoring and performance level at each monthly competition by an average point (4.5 - 5.5 - 6.5) between May and July.

Volt4ge did not attend the national outdoor championship in 2018 and came back in the same category for the three UKSL meets in 2019. This time they followed up at the British Outdoor Nationals 2019 and won the A Class gold medals with the first 10+ average in a field of 13 teams.

The new British A Class champions were not done and traveled to Belgium for the ESL Championship 2019 where they contributed eight ESL points to the victory of the British ESL delegation in Spa. Ten teams competed in the A Class at the ESL Championship, including the three guest teams from Qatar. No meets were scheduled in 2020 when the corona virus crisis impacted on all areas of sports and life across the planet.

British Army Volt4ge moved up to AA Class training and competition when 4-way activities resumed in 2021. British Skydiving scheduled two UKSL meets in June and July, and Volt4ge attended both as the only team in the their new category.

However, they were not alone at the national outdoor championship in August. Six teams competed for the AA Class medals, and Volt4ge had to work hard to win the next set of gold medals. They finished four points ahead of 4Reigners after the eight rounds, once again with the 10.1 average that they had posted two years ago in the A Class.

After winning the AA Class title it was time for the step up into the unlimited AAA Class world where they would meet the best British 4-way teams, including the British national teams in 4-way Open, Chimera, and in 4-way Women, NFTO. They started at the British Indoor Nationals 2022 and followed up at the British Outdoor Nationals for their first AAA Class experiences. Their AA Class opponents of 2021, 4Reigners, had made the same step, and both teams battled again, this time at the bottom of the AAA Class leaderboard. The 2023 season has been the second year in the AAA Class for the British Army team, and they had once again plans to top off the year with an international meet experience, as they had done at the ESL Championship 2019.

Volt4ge attended the three UKSL meets in May, June and July, together with Vantage, and had plans to compete for the British delegation at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 at the end of August. The British national championship would conclude the outdoor competition season at the beginning of September.

The British 4-way delegation has only two teams (4Reigners, Deep n Filthy) registered for the 4-way Open Class competition at the outdoor world cup in Voss, Norway, where up to four teams per nation would be accepted by FAI/ISC. NFTO and Alola will compete in 4-way Women for Great Britain, Deton8 and Ap8thy in 8-way Open. The U.S. delegation includes four teams in 4-way Open (Arizona Airspeed, SDC Rhythm XP, Skydive Midwest NEXT, Lightspeed XP).

The national skydiving federations have to sanction the teams for the FAI/ISC events, while neither the host's nor FAI/ISC regulations are limiting the 4-way lineups of the teams, as long as they consist of four competitors, videographer and alternate. British Skydiving still did not sanction two teams for the outdoor world cup who had changed their lineups since the national championships.

Both teams, British Army Volt4ge and Skyhigh, would be eligible according to the FAI/ISC regulations, and they had to change their plans when they did not get British Skydiving permission to compete in Norway. The British Outdoor Nationals will once again be the last outdoor competition of the year for Volt4ge.
