Did You Know...

... that Skywalkers Junior went from AA 8.4 in June to AAA 13.6 last weekend?

posted Jul 10th, 2023 - The Skywalkers Junior team of Jan Klapka's 4-way project in the Czech Republic have been a regular topic for the NSL News ever since the team mates of the former 4-way Junior teams HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons started with AFF training and eventually joined forces to form the Skywalkers Junior 4-way team.

It was not a coincidence, at least not to Jan Klapka's understanding. He envisioned a bright 4-way future for the Czech 4-way community as soon as the Hurricane Factory windtunnel in Prague opened the doors. It did not take very long until he had completed a junior school program and invited parents out of the skydiving environment to send their children to his new 4-way school.

His vision did not only become reality when the HF Cubs won the first world championship title for the Czech Republic at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2019. The Czech 4-way Junior teams have won each FAI indoor competition since 2019, and the HF Cubs even won the FAI gold medals in 4-way Women at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022. Jan Klapka had surely set up the Czech Republic onto the world's 4-way map by then.

However, his vision went far beyond indoor training and competition for the new 4-way teams and competitors in his country. He is a passionate outdoor athlete and had the next plan in his drawers for the time when the Czech 4-way juniors would grow out of their age group. He dedicated his skydiving school in Most to outdoor training for his former juniors who wanted to make the next step and jump from planes.

Jan Klapka had the dream that enough qualified training could bring his former 4-way juniors to the same world's top level that the other Formation Skydiving powerhouses in the world have occupied for many years. Early and regular training, beginning in elementary school age, would prepare interested and motivated children and their parents for an unlimited future in 4-way training and competition.

The HF Cubs did not make the next step as a complete team, even though some of the team members completed their transition to outdoor training and competition. The NSL News reported on 6 July 2020 that Cubs member Sabina Cioleková completed her first outdoor competition with the Dream Team,

She competed at three meets with experienced Czech 4-way seniors, and two more former 4-way juniors followed up in August 2022. HF Flying Rebel Martin Stransky and HF Chameleon Filip Lukavec competed with the Dream Team, together with Dana Stankova and Marián Jeziak.

The Dream Team competed in the AAA Class, as the former Czech 4-way Juniors were familiar with the complete dive pool and AAA sequences that they trained with their junior indoor teams. Jan Klapka's winning strategy for the 4-way Junior competition included the early AAA challenge before stepping back to the AA/4-way Junior rules at the FAI/ISC events.

Skywalkers Junior at the June Meet of the Czech Skydiving League
8-way after Round 10 over Most
The next Czech 4-way junior was ready this year. HF Chameleon Antonín Ondrácek joined his former team mate Filip Lukavec and Flying Rebel Martin Stránský at the first outdoor competition in the Czech Republic this year. Kristián Vlk completed the lineup for the first eight outdoor rounds in the AA Class. The first Skywalkers Junior lineup finished in the middle of the leaderboard in June with their 8.4 average.

Then it was time for the next former 4-way junior. Martin Stránský's Flying Rebels team mate Michal Mikolasek was ready for outdoor competition and joined Skywalkers Junior for the July competition last weekend. The event took place on their home turf in Most, and they went straight to the AAA Class sequences that they have known so well.

Skywalkers Junior and M Team did not have to jump from the right-hand door of a Pilatus Porter this time, which was the jump plane in Pribram last month. The Skywalkers had lost a lot of working time due to exit troubles in the eight rounds. The PAC in Most does not offer a much easier door for 4-way exits, however, it was on the better side of the plane for teams with a left-hand pattern, and the Skywalkers have been familiar with it after their AFF and previous 4-way training.

The 8.4 average in the AA Class turned into 13.6 on the AAA Class leaderboard, and the Skywalkers are now waiting for other AAA scores to compare with. They finished the 10-round competition weekend with an 8-way jump. Skywalkers Junior joined forces with M Team and Jan Klapka himself in the lineup, and HF Flying Circus member Martina Vavackova filled an open slot.
