Did You Know...

... that the Lightspeed XP history is longer than it looks like?

Lightspeed XP at the USPA Nationals 2022
posted Jul 22nd, 2023 - The NSL News introduced the U.S. 8-way team Bra Nok on July 20th, as it is registered with the U.S. delegation for the FAI Outdoor World Cup in Voss, Norway, which is coming up soon.

The update mentioned that the complete Lightspeed XP lineup is a part of the 8-way team, with former Arizona Airspeed videographer Taylor Buffington on camera. Bra Nok was in training at Skydive Paraclete XP when the NSL News covered the Summer Classic competition live at the event site. Lightspeed XP did not participate in the 4-way competition, as the weekend was the 8-way team's only training opportunity before the trip to Norway with the U.S. delegation.

The situation was the same on the following weekend, which became the first training opportunity for Lightspeed XP's complete lineup since the USPA Nationals 2022. Lightspeed committed to four training days, beginning on Friday, with the last jumps on the coming Monday.

Original Lightspeed XP member Shannon Catalano could not travel from California to Skydive Paraclete XP for the 8-way training and then stay for the whole week. Kirk Verner and Louis French substituted for her and Skydive Midwest NEXT member Katie Healy who will also compete for Bra Nok in Norway. Shannon Catalano then arrived for the Lightspeed XP 4-way training with coach Niklas Hemlin.

NSL Live Talk with Lightspeed XP - Recorded on 22 July 2023
James Hall with Vega XP in 2021
The complete Lightspeed XP lineup took the time for NSL Live Talk at the end of the second training day and had the opportunity to discuss the team history and the plans for Norway.

The Lightspeed XP story is recorded with scores and meet attendance since the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021, when Shannon Catalano and Brandon Kashani trained and competed with former Vega XP member Nicholas Walker. Kirk Verner completed the lineup as the team's player-coach. The 3-way asked Kirk Verner after the event to continue with them for the outdoor season and eventually won the 4-way Advanced Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2021.

The Lightspeed XP story actually began even earlier, as the team's outside center, James Hall, explained during the NSL Live Talk conversation. Brandon Kashani, Nicholas Walker and James Hall are all former Vega XP members. Brandon Kashani and Nicholas Walker left Vega XP after winning the 4-way Advanced Class competition at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020. James Hall and André Van Heerden replaced them, while Brandon Kashani and Nicholas Walker launched Lightspeed XP in 2021.

Vega XP discontinued after the USPA Nationals 2021, and James Hall was ready to join a new team. The opportunity came when Shannon Catalano and Brandon Kashani were looking for new Lightspeed XP members to replace Nicholas Walker and player-coach Kirk Verner for the 2022 season.

Brandon Kashani and Nicholas Walker with Vega XP in 2020
The Lightspeed XP story goes even further back when Shannon Catalano and Brandon Kashani were recruiting a new lineup for 2022. James Hall and Matthew Hunt had won USPA Advanced Class gold medals already at the USPA Nationals 2019, also with player-coach Kirk Verner in the lineup. Louis French and videographer Brian Festi completed Redline XP.

James Hall and Matthew Hunt spent only one year together with Redline XP. James Hall continued alone when he joined Vega XP. Matthew Hunt eventually re-joined forces with his Redline XP team mate when Shannon Catalano and Brandon Kashani were recruiting the two new team members for Lightspeed XP at the end of the 2021 season.

Joss Martin was filming the new Lightspeed XP lineup at the team's first competition in 4-way Open at the USPA Nationals 2022, which was the last time that the complete lineup trained or competed together. James Hall, Matthew Hunt and Brandon Kashani hired Jeana Billings as the player-coach for the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2023 when Shannon Catalano was invited to become the new XPG4 member. Jeana Billings and Shannon Catalano both returned to their previous teams earlier this year and were in training with XPG4 and Lightspeed XP this weekend.
