Did You Know...

... that Norgyx/Norgies and Agera had a re-match in 8-way?

Thyra lineup in 2022
posted Jul 31st, 2023 - The situation behind Agera and Norgyx/Norgies at Norway's national championships was not less interesting compared to the dramatic duel on the very top of the 4-way leaderboard. In fact, Thyra and Grenland Grumsen All Stars had their own unofficial jump-off in Round 10.

The 7-point difference at the end does not reflect how close both teams were throughout their own 10-round battle. The same whole 7-point difference was completely a result of the Super Sequence in Round 10 that the more experienced team mastered significantly better than the young Thyra lineup.

Thyra has been brought to the attention of the NSL News as Norway's official national team in 4-way Women. The team and the 2022 lineup was introduced after the national championships last year, with the update on 15 August 2022. It was Thyra's first outdoor competition, and the lineup has changed in the meantime.

Silvana Disch-Dornberger and Alice Solberg have replaced Kristina Aarvold and Julia Heimdall-Hansen, and together with original members Camilla Marnor and Christiane Wilhelmine Sørfjord Tuv they will represent Norway in 4-way Women at the upcoming FAI Outdoor World Cup, with Dennis Barstad on camera.

Grenland Gremsen All Stars - Thyra at the Norwegian Outdoor Nationals 2023
Agera lineup in 2022
Several 4-way teams had more on their agenda at the national championships, as there was also the traditional 8-way competition with a limited dive pool that is tailored towards the whole Formation Skydiving community in Norway. The 4-way event has two different categories (AAA/Open - A/Intermediate), and several AAA Class competitors compete as player-coaches in both categories.

Grenland Grumsen's All Star Kristoffer Thorstensen was also in the lineup of A Class winner Lightning, as he was last year when he was still training and competing with Agera. Kjetil Nordin competed with AAA Class team IRIS and guided Urus to the A Class silver medals. The Space Girls in 3rd place had Thyra member Camilla Marnor in their lineup. Last and not least, Arcteryx and Norgys member Ole Petter Hjelle also competed with A Class team Friday Knights.

Original DeLand Norgies member Pål Kolbenstvedt did not bring his Viken Warriors to this year's national championship. The most successful Norwegian Formation Skydiving competitor in the country's history won the Intermediate Class title as a player-coach in 2021 and 2022. This year's lineup lost Alice Solberg after the indoor championship in March when she was recruited for the new Thyra lineup. The AAA Class player coaches who competed with A Class teams at the same time actually had a third event last week with the 8-way competition.

Norgies 8-way team at work last week
The DeLand Norgies/Norgyx combination (Lise Nansen, Pal Kolbenstvedt, Carl-Erik Tuv, Torstein Valen, Ole Petter Hjelle) invited IRIS members Siri Victoria Lund and her 4-way player-coach Kjetil Nordin for their 8-way lineup. VFS expert and former member of Norway's national 4-way Open Class team Derek Nordlund Broughton and Aleksander Gamme, completed the team, with Anders Krabbenhoft from Denmark on 8-way camera, as well.

The Norgyx/Norgies won the re-match with Agera in 8-way, as the national team in 4-way Open competed with all members in 8-way, as well. Agera joined forces with the complete Thyra lineup for the Thygera 8-way team, with Agera's Kristoffer Overli Andersen on 8-way camera. This time, the new generation of Norwegian national competitors could not upset the 4-way and 8-way veterans.

Thygera managed to tie one round of the Norgies 8-way team. Naturally, the much more experienced lineup of the Norgies had the advantage of a more reliable linked 8-way exit, while Thygera lost a lot of working time at the beginning of each of the four competition rounds.

There was only one round where Thygera managed to survive the beginning of the working time without too much damage, while the Norgies stumbled for a few seconds. Result was the tied 8-pointer in Round 3. The 8-way competition at the Norwegian Nationals could become more competitive in the near future, as well.
