Did You Know...

... that Denmark is looking for a name of the long lost sword trophy?

Bionicles/DaneZ with the Danish sword in 2003
posted Aug 7th, 2023 - The NSL News introduced a new lineup for Denmark's national team in 4-way Open, Sequenz, with the update on June 29th. The same article confirmed that the new lineup will compete for Denmark at the upcoming FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 in Voss, Norway.

Peter Stræde has taken the slot of Sequenz founder Vibeke Birk Tideman who did not continue with the team after the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022. Flemming Borup Andersen, Ulrik Høgsberg and Hans Oksen are back with team videographer Anders Krabbenhøft, who was just filming the 4-way and 8-way competition jumps of the Norgyx/Norgies at Norway's national outdoor championships, as well. Anders Krabbenhøft will compete with his Danish team at the outdoor world cup in Voss.

The new Sequenz lineup did not have much serious opposition at their country's national outdoor championship this year. Denmark's military CISM team had won last year's 4-way title at the end of a 3-point battle over ten rounds. Sequenz still competed for Denmark in Eloy last year, as they had won the qualification event in 2021 over the CISM team.

The new Sequenz lineup will compete for Denmark in Voss, Norway, and is qualified to represent the country at the next outdoor world championship in Israel 2024.The NSL News introduced a new lineup for Denmark's national team in 4-way Open, Sequenz, with the update on June 29th. Sequenz was the first team that received a special trophy this year after a long break. Sequenz member Flemming Borup Andersen has been researching Denmark's history in 4-way Formation Skydiving competition and discovered that there was another sword that was created for the Danish 4-way champions many years ago.

It was in 2003 when a Danish 4-way fan donated a similar sword as the well known William H. Ottley Sword for 4-way and 8-way Formation Skydiving world championships, the Excalibur. The Bionicles (Mikael Toft, Brian Lindgren, Jess Rømer, Rene Andreasen, Bjarke Gjødesen on camera) won Denmark's national championship in 2003 and received the new sword trophy. Then they competed for Denmark as the DaneZ at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2003.

The Danish sword trophy had disappeared for 20 years before Flemming Borup Andersen, DaneZ member Jesper Brøgger Rasmussen and former sports manager Flemming Nøddegaard found it. Flemming Borup Andersen also discovered that 19 teams competed at the Danish Outdoor Nationals in 2003, which is still the record participation. He said that the national team Sequenz will do their part to bring back similar attendances in the future. The Danish sword will be a part of the 4-way recruiting campaign.

17+ average: DaneZ in 2009
At this point in time, Flemming Borup Andersen and his Sequenz team mates are trying to find the best name for the trophy, as he explained: "The Ottley sword Excalibur is known by all 4-way FS teams that have been to a world championship, and our sword should be given the same value nationally. Before this is possible, we need to find a name for the sword. What should it be? The national team makes a jump or a tunnel session with the jumper who finds the best name and participates in the Danish outdoor or indoor nationals in 4-way FS."

His team mate Hans Linding Oksen's suggestion is Curtana, which was the name of Holger Danske's sword.

The new Sequenz lineup have now arrived at the 15+ scoring level where the DaneZ were in 2003. The DaneZ eventually lifted their performance to 17+ before they discontinued in 2009. Bodyflight Voluntas followed as the national team in Menzelinsk 2010 and competed for Denmark in Dubai 2012, as well.

Sequenz posted a meet average two average points higher than in October 2022 after the completed seven rounds. This has changed the NSL Power Rankings where Denmark's national 4-way champions have now taken the top spot in the field behind all twelve Top 10 contenders.
