Did You Know...

... that the next 4-way junior has transitioned to outdoor action?

posted Aug 16th, 2023 - The recent visit of the NSL News in the Czech Republic had the purpose of introducing the former 4-way juniors of Jan Klapka's 4-way school at the Hurricane Factory windtunnel in Prague, who have successfully transitioned to outdoor training and competition.

The Skywalkers Junior combination of former HF Flying Rebels (Michal Mikulisek, Martin Stransky) and HF Chameleon (Filip Lukavec, Antonin Ondracek) members were in training for the national outdoor championship at the skydiving center in Most. The competition is scheduled for the coming weekend, and the NSL News met the team on August 12th.

The upcoming national championship will be the third outdoor competition for the Skywalkers Junior lineup with their average age of under 17 years, the second one with the same lineup. Most likely, they will win the Czech 4-way outdoor title and compete for the Czech Republic at the world championships and world cups of the future. Jan Klapka plans to send the team to Israel next year for the outdoor world championship, and they have a test event in Israel later this year on the team schedule.

Other former 4-way junior indoor competitors have mastered the same transition successfully, as well. Tom Mattoni competed for France in 4-way Open at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022 and won the silver medals at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023. Canadian Yannick Bisson competed at the same outdoor competition in October last year and made the Top 10 with 4Astrophe.

HF Flying Rebels - SDU GenZ at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023
Skywalkers Junior in Most last weekend
Another former 4-way junior competitor was watching the new 4-way Open Class outdoor competitors with great interest at the indoor world championship in Slovakia. In fact, Patricia Herdicky, member of Skydive University's GenZ lineup, competed in 4-way Junior at the same event with her own team.

Tom Mattoni competed in 4-way Open and challenged Arizona Airspeed in a few rounds, while Patricia Herdicky had two of the new Czech outdoor competitors as direct opponents in her her own category. HF Flying Rebels had at least company by one team on the 4-way Junior leaderboard, and Patricia Herdicky was flying in the point slot for the Slovakian home team.

She was carefully watching the 4-way action when her team was not busy with preparations for the next round, and she had comprehensive knowledge of events in the 4-way world, after following the NSL News very regularly. She happened to sit next to the observation post of the NSL News during the speed test round the day before the competition began and provided some insights from the 4-way junior perspective. The former SDU GenZ member recently updated the NSL News with information from Slovakia, which included the sad news for her that her team had no plans to continue after the indoor world championship.

SDU GenZ' Patricia Herdicky at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023 and AFF Level 5
SDU GenZ with coach Peter Novak
Patricia Herdicky had very exciting news at the same time. She provided a video that is showing her 5th AFF jump last weekend. It completed her freefall training, and she is ready to follow the path that Yannick Bisson, Tom Mattoni and the four Skywalkers Junior members started earlier.

Her AFF instructor was also filming the freefall action. Peter Novak is a former member of Slovakia's Skydive University 4-way team, who still competed for Slovakia at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2019. He was coaching the new generation of Slovakian 4-way competitors until the indoor world championship earlier this year. Then he continued his coaching work into Patricia Herdicky's recent freefall training.

Patricia Herdicky is a NMP PCH HayaBusa fan and wants to continue with her 4-way career: "I look up to those guys so much!! They are great athletes and in addition super nice people…" She is dreaming of training with the Belgians one day and meeting them again.

David Grauwels was coaching the Czech 4-way juniors in the past, including the HF Cubs junior and senior world and world cup champions in 4-way Women. The dream of meeting the HayaBusa members again could actually become reality. It was only indoor training that David Grauwels supervised in Prague. Skywalkers Junior and Patricia Herdicky have made the next step and could get outdoor coaching next. The next outdoor scores of the Czech team will be posted this weekend.
