... that the NSL Power Rankings changed after insights from Sven Ibens?

Sven Ibens (top, 2nd from left) with NMP PCH HayaBusa in 2014
posted Aug 18th, 2023 - The last adjustment of the NSL Power Rankings preview leaderboards for the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 came after a new NSL Live Talk conversation with former NMP PCH HayaBusa member Sven Ibens on Friday morning, the transition day of the NSL News on the way to Voss in Norway.

The previous conversation with Sven Ibens was recorded on January 3rd this year. He had changed his professional business career to become the new Team Leader & Managing Director for the AAD manufacturer VIGIL. The new job situation and his current team, ISR FireFlash were the main topics by then.

Sven Ibens provided brief updates of the same topics before switching to the upcoming major event, the outdoor world cup in Norway.

ISR FireFlash and his previous 4-way team ISR Thunder have attended indoor and outdoor world cups in the past and might have traveled to Norway, as well, without the complications after Maya Van Campenhout's injury.

However, ISR FireFlash will be back in training soon, as former team member Wesley Claessens committed to some indoor training with new member Lena Clynhens until Maya Van Campenhout has completely recovered. Sven Ibens also reported that his VIGIL team is performing very well, too.

Sven Ibens has a very close relationship with NMP PCH HayaBusa as one of the original team members. He could not continue with the team after the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2006, while he was still the official alternate for the team until the Belgians won their second world championship title at Skydive Chicago in 2016.

He said that NMP PCH HayaBusa do not really have an alternate any longer and that he could not take the time off to visit Norway for the outdoor world cup. However, he has been coaching some of the 4-way Open Class teams who are a part of the Dutch delegation that the NSL News covered yesterday.

The insights that Sven Ibens provided caused some new adjustments of the NSL Power Rankings in 4-way Open. The changes reach all the way up to the medal level, where it seemed like the placing order of the Shamrock Showdown 2023 and the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023 could be expected without a lot of exciting competition.

Sven Ibens sees only Arizona Airspeed and Qatar Tigers set in their positions, while he expects a battle for the silver medals between France and NMP PCH HayaBusa. He said that his latest observations of the HayaBusa performance make him hopeful that his former team is moving closer to Airspeed and could outscore France already.

Upgraded: Agera
Sven Ibens also added Norway's national team in 4-way Open, Agera, to the group of six teams who have a chance to take the 5th place behind the four medal contenders. He divided the same six teams into three top contenders for the 5th place (Papea, Amnesya, SDC Rhythm XP) and three underdogs (Airbus Illertissen Oceanside, Skydive Midwest NEXT, Agera) in the battle for the same position.

He also upgraded Dutch team Chaotic Motion VIXX, which matches the recent coverage of the 4-way Open Class delegation of the Netherlands in Voss. National indoor and outdoor team Out Of The Blue (OOTB) have been facing a challenge by Chaotic Motion, which Sven Ibens is reflecting by expecting a close duel between the two teams. One of the two Qatar teams behind the Tigers could join this Dutch battle.

OOTB, Chaotic Motion and Qatar all together are facing the difficult task to outscore one of the six teams in the battle for the 5th place if they are aiming at a Top 10 position. According to Sven Ibens' evaluation, Agera complete the Top 10 rankings, and it requires a peak performance of the three teams behind to change the order.

Finally, the previously mentioned Dutch/Belgian joint championship event right after the outdoor world cup will feature the Ibens family in 4-way action. Annelies Hasewinkel-Ibens and Sven Ibens have trained their 16-year old son to get him ready for 4-way competition, and new FireFlash member Lena Clynhens completes the lineup for the national outdoor championship. In the meantime, the Skywalkers Junior have created a 27-point lead after Round 3 at the Czech outdoor championship in Most...
