Did You Know...

... that the Czech Republic has new and very young national 4-way champions?

posted Aug 20th, 2023 - As it could be expected, the Czech Republic has a new national 4-way champion and national team, the Skywalkers Junior. The NSL News visited their home dropzone in Most earlier this month, and the update on August 12th included NSL Live Talk with the complete lineup.

The competition was not over after Round 6, however, Skywalkers Junior had created a 49-point lead at that point in time, and the remaining four rounds have only statistical value. The 4-way juniors of 2022 have increased their scoring level once again in their third outdoor competition this year.

Skywalkers Junior represent the fourth generation of Czech national teams, and they are on their way to increase the country's top performance and scoring level that HF Flying Circus have lifted to international recognition in the past years.

The national outdoor championship also featured two members of HF Flying Circus, Martina Vavackova and Lukas Kaderabek, while the team's tail, Jakub KLapka, is now on camera for Skywalkers Junior. Martina Vavackova and Lukas Kaderabek were guiding two more Czech 4-way juniors to their first outdoor competition, and they were on their way on Friday to even take away the 2nd place from the M Team seniors,

Kristian Vlk was in the first outdoor lineup of Skywalkers Junior and competed with them in June this year. Krystof Rulf is still a reigning indoor world champion in 4-way Junior, as he competed with HF Flying Rebels at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023, together with Skwalkers Junior members Michal Mikulisek and Martin Stransky. Juniors Plus (Martina Vavackova and Lukas Kaderabek) were only two points behind M Team after Round 6 and had the momentum on their side.

No Czech 4-way team has yet posted a 15+ average in a 10-round meet without a Super Sequence. The dominating team between 2003 and 2012, Skywalkers/Sky Service/Lize, still own the official Czech record average of 15.9 which included a Super Sequence (B,L,O,Q,P) in Round 10.

Skywalkers Junior ended up with a 14.4 average at the end of the technically challenging 10-round competition this weekend. They will soon wipe out the record number of August 2009, posted by the senior team, and the event will have a special note. Skywalkers Junior's Inside Center Filip Lukavec would outscore his father Jan Lukavec who was in the Skywalkers/Sky Service/Lize lineups between 2003 and 2012.

Jan Lukavec joined the Bad Boys when Skywalkers/Sky Service/Lize did not continue after the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2012, where they posted the highest 4-way meet average (14.9) of a Czech team in the country's history at FAI Outdoor World Championships of Formation Skydiving.

Jan Klapka was founder and original member of the Bad Boys, the next Czech national team in 4-way Open after Skywalkers/Sky Service/Lize. Bad Boys won the national championships every year between 2013 and 2017 and still never competed for the Czech Republic at outdoor world championships, even though they attended many international indoor meets regularly.

Jan Klapka's mission was the 4-way junior project at the Hurricane Factory. He was planning to create future outdoor world champions, as soon as the windtunnel in Prague opened the doors. He continued in 4-way with the Bad Boys until his son Jakub Klapka took the 4-way top spot in the Czech Republic away from him with HF Flying Circus.

Martina Vavackova, Dagmar Bezdzkova and Lukas Kaderabek launched the HF Flying Circus in 2014, together with Hanka Weinlichova, and Jakub Klapka joined the team at the end of 2015. It took three years until the lineup of 2022 was ready to take over the top spot in the Czech Republic, and they became one of the Top 10 indoor teams in the world.

The four members of the previous national teams (Martina Vavackova, Lukas Kaderabek, Jakub and Jan Klapka) were now helping the newest generation of Czech 4-way competitors very successfully to take the top spot. Jakub and Jan Klapka are heavily involved with the Skywalkers Junior, Martina Vavackova and Lukas Kaderabek player-coached the other two 4-way juniors to the silver medals.
