posted Aug 22nd, 2023 - All 4-way teams have completed three rounds on the first competition day of the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 in Voss, Norway.

Both French 4-way teams must have liked the sequence of Round 3, where the 4-way Open Class team tied Arizona Airspeed's 26-pointer and the new Nephtys lineup the 20-pointer by XPG4, after a 1-point deduction for the U.S. team.

NMP PCH HayaBusa is back on track after two weak opening rounds with a total of six point deductions for infringements.

Germany's Airbus is holding on to the 5th place and even added another point to the lead in 5th place, despite the very strong opposition.

Meltemi Oceanside did the same in 4-way Women and extended the lead over U.S. team SNE Fly Girls in 4th place to four points.

Out Of The Blue and Qatar Cheetahs claimed Top 10 positions that they took away from Agera and Skydive Midwest NEXT. The five teams behind Airbus are all within striking distance of the 5th place goal.

The 8-way teams finally came into action, as well, and completed at least one round by the end of the day. There is a lot of daylight in Norway, and the opening ceremony in the evening cut the competition activities shorter than usual.

23rd FAI World Cup of Formation Skydiving: Fun Flag Part 1 - Featuring Elise Poindron
Simon Brentford with Fun Flag an hour later
The Fun Flag activities started very early and very intensively on the first day of the competition. The French delegation was heavily involved, as they brought the Fun Flag to Norway, after the latest sighting at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022in October last year.

Nephtys member Elise Poindron is a passionate and well trained climber, and she had probably extra energy after the strong Round 3 of her French 4-way Women team. She climbed up the rock at the dropzone with the Fun Flag and found a well visible spot on the upper wall. 4-way Open Class member Mathieu Quizy assisted her with professional backup security.

The new location of the Fun Flag became well known quickly at the perfect spot. Kirk Verner sent a photo just minutes after Elise Poindron had completed her task successfully. The British delegation and some German observers paid attention to the first Fun Flag location and showed up another few minutes later with climbing gear.

Simon Brentford, who is still filming NFTO, was the climber for the British delegation, and he had to work hard to get to Elise Poindron's spot. Half an hour later, the Fun Flag had a new home in the packing hangar. It did not stay there for very long...
