Did You Know...

... that Ayro won Belgian gold after the next duel with Falco?

Belgian championship awards
posted Sep 14th, 2023 - The NSL News covered the new combined Belgian/Dutch outdoor championship when the teams had completed eight rounds at Skydive Flanders in Moorsele on September 8th. The competition was not only the combined national championship for teams from Belgian and the Netherlands. The NSL News mentioned in the first update that the two new Qatar teams, Cheetahs and Lions, were also heading to the event to participate as guest teams.

The event turned out to be a re-match between five of the teams who had visited Skydive Voss in Norway just a week earlier. Dutch national team Out Of The Blue had finished behind the Qatar Cheetahs at Skydive Voss and were a point ahead of the Qatar Lions in Moorsele after Round 8. They defended the 1st place on the AAA Class leaderboard successfully with a new 10-round team record average (17.7) and won their next Dutch 4-way title, as well.

Neither NMP PCH HayaBusa nor ISR FireFlash competed for Belgian medals this year, and the annual battle between Ayro and Falco would generate the new Belgian 4-way champions. This year's outdoor duel between the same two teams became the closest one ever with a 1-point difference, and Ayro has now had the upper hand at outdoor meets since September 2021.

Falco won the last outdoor duel at the ESL Championship 2019 and the indoor duel at the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2022. The 15.9 average for the Belgian silver medals was almost matching the 16.0 average of the national championship last year where NMP PCH HayaBusa won the national championship title.

Ayro - Falco at the Belgian/Dutch Outdoor Nationals 2023
Open Class awards
Qatar Cheetahs and Lions switched their finishing positions in Moorsele, as their coaches Gary Smith and Luc Verstrepen expected at the outdoor world cup. The Lions were shocked by the zero in Round 1 at Skydive Voss and had no chance to place on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard on the ranking level where they actually performed.

They fully recovered at the Belgian/Dutch outdoor championship and placed ahead of the second Dutch 4-way team in Norway, Chaotic Motion VIXX, and in front of the Cheetahs, as well. The 17.3 average was a new team record for the Lions, after the previous 15.7 at the USPA Nationals 2022.

The Cheetahs had posted their own record average (17.6) for the challenging ten rounds at the 23rd FAI World Cup of Formation Skydiving in Norway and could not copy the same performance level in Belgium. They ended up behind OOTB and the Lions both.

Family Flash won the Belgian bronze medals, behind Ayro and Falco. The lineup of the team is a very special one that deserves more special attention. The NSL News will follow up soon.
