The FAI/ISC Formation Skydiving events with the current format of rules and dive pools have been taking turns since 1985, world championships in the odd years, world cups in the even years. This changed once in 2004 to somehow match other events in air sports, and the same events have been taking place in the reversed order ever since, world championships in even years, world cups in odd years. The change was the reason for two consecutive world championships, the first one in Gap 2003, followed by Rijeka in 2004.
The inclusion of indoor events by FAI/ISC in 2015 complicated the balancing of the schedule for participating teams without causing too much trouble, as indoor training and competition were already a solid part of the sport by then. The new indoor world championships were scheduled for the same years with the outdoor world cups (odd), vice versa (even) for outdoor world championships and indoor world cups.
After several years with troubling proximity of the indoor and outdoor events, and the resulting difficulties for participating teams in both environments, FAI/ISC began scheduling indoor and outdoor events separated enough to avoid the practical challenges for the teams, outdoor events towards the end of the calendar years, indoor events half a year later. This event schedule has been applied since 2019.
FAI/ISC events were resumed while most of the new pandemic-related rules and regulations were still in place, only with the re-scheduled outdoor world championship in Tanay 2021 though. The indoor world cup at Airspace Charleroi was next in April 2022, followed by the outdoor world championship at Skydive Arizona in October 2022.
The indoor/outdoor event schedule was back in the same balance as it was before the pandemic, after indoor world championship in April this year in Slovkia and outdoor world cup in Norway were successfully completed, as well. The next indoor world cup was scheduled for April 2024 in China, the next outdoor world championship for October 2024 in Israel, as the NSL News reported on 13 March 2022.
A new major obstacle has now occurred with the next political conflict in the Middle East part of the planet's geographical map, and the outdoor world championship has been canceled. FAI/ISC are looking for an alternative host, as the official announcement of the cancellation decision is reading:
