Did You Know...

... that Doug Barron and Andrew Happick have 4-way and 8-way history together?

Bra Nok XP at the FAI Outdoor World Cup
posted Oct 18th, 2023 - The 4-way story of RhEvolution XP and Skydive Midwest NEXT is complete at this point in time, while it continues in a different way. Some of the respective team members have also been engaged in 8-way training and competition.

Skydive Midwest NEXT's Greg Oldendick and Gorka Amian are both current members of Doug Barron's Prison 9 project, Greg Oldendick since 2017, Gorka Amian since 2019. That was the time when they were also 4-way team mates with Chris Normandeau for RhEvolution XP. Current RhEvolution member Christine Bruchac was in Doug Barron's 8-way lineup in 2019, as well.

Chris Normandeau focused only on 4-way training and competition, while Greg Oldendick and Gorka Amian continued in both events after they joined Skydive Midwest NEXT. They are still in the Prison 9 lineup, and they won two 8-way bronze medals this year, first at the 23rd FAI World Cup of Formation Skydiving, a few weeks later at the USPA Nationals.

The NSL News reported on October 8th that Prison 9 won the FAI and USPA bronze medals with the identical 13.7 team record average at the two events. The same story explained how Bra Nok XP, with Chris Normandeau and NEXT member Katie Healy in the lineup, ended up in Norway, as well.

4-way training and competition is still the priority for Chris Normandeau, even though he joined Bra Nok XP for the USPA Nationals 2022. In fact, that's where he connected with this year's RhEvolution XP team mate Kim Hollander, who arrived from the other direction in her comeback after a few quiet years.

As planned, according to the Norwegian team name, Bra Nok XP traveled to Skydive Voss and competed there without XPG4 members Anna Brunner and Brenn Richards. They were back with the original lineup for the 8-way competition at this year's national championship in September.

Only Shannon Catalano did not follow up at the USPA Nationals after competing at the outdoor world cup in 4-way (Lightspeed XP) and 8-way (Bra Nok XP). Christine Bruchac took her 8-way slot, and three members of the current RhEvolution XP lineup were back together in 8-way at Paraclete XP, as well, together with Anna Brunner and Brenn Richards, who had completed their 4-way Women mission in Norway successfully. XPG4 members Michelle Karamon and Jeana Billings had their own USPA 8-way assignments, Michelle Karamon with Airspeed's 8-way lineup, Jeana Billings with GKXP8.

Andrew Happick with the 8-way sword in Eloy 2022
RhEvolution XP's player-coach, Andrew Happick, is Jeana Billings' GKXP8 team mate and one of the reigning 8-way world champions. He was already the alternate for the lineup that won the 8-way battle against France at the FAI Tanay Mondial in August 2021. He accepted the full slot with the beginning of the 2022 season and won his second 8-way gold medal in Eloy last October.

Andrew Happick is still in the GKXP8 lineup and is now waiting for the new host of the next outdoor world championship, after the recent cancellation of the planned event in Israel. There he will most likely win his third consecutive 8-way gold medal.

As it is for Chris Normandeau, 4-way training and competition was originally the priority for Andrew Happick, who spent many years together with Doug Barron until they finally won their first USPA gold medals in 4-way Open with SDC Rhythm XP in 2019 and represented the U.S. delegation at the world championship in Russia. Doug Barron and Andrew Happick together also launched the Rhythm 8-way project, which eventually turned into Prison 9 without Andrew Happick. The two U.S. 4-way legends of a younger generation are now both winning 8-way medals at national and world championships, as well.
