Did You Know...

... that Fire Phoenix was the most improved team at the Italian Indoor Nationals?

Fire Phoenix at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2023
posted Oct 30th, 2023 - Italian 4-way teams had to travel to Poland in November 2022 if they wanted to compete at the country's national indoor championship. The event was embedded in the Flyspot Open 2022, as the NSL News reported on 16 November 2022.

Four Italian teams competed at Flyspot Katowice last year, and the same four teams were back in October 2022, without the necessity of any traveling between Italy and Poland. It was probably no surprise that twice as many teams participated on home turf in Italy. Eleven teams had attended the previous indoor competition in Italy in 2019.

All four teams at the event in Poland last year increased their performance level significantly, while the ranking order turned out to be different between them. Fire Phoenix, Italy's 4-way Women team at the 4th FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship in Slovakia this year, was the most improved team since November 2022 (14.1 - 18.9) and defeated Bandits Revolution by two points to win the bronze medals at the end of a 10-round battle.

Fire Phoenix were 12 points behind Bandits last year (13.8 - 15.0) who may not have expected the impressive 4-way Women performance a year later, even though the Fire Phoenix average at the indoor world championship (16.4) indicated that there was significant progression.

Fire Phoenix still had to fend off Panik by two points at the Flyspot Open a year ago (138 - 136), and they were back for a new duel, once again for the Italian indoor bronze medals. Panik were up to Bandits' meet average of last year (13.6 - 15.6) which was not enough to keep in touch with the same two teams behind Fly X in November 2022.

The duel between Fire Phoenix and Bandits Revolution of 2023 was still tied at half-time after Round 5 this month. Fire Phoenix created a 5-point lead in Round 6 and Round 7, which was reduced to two points in Round 9. The two opponents tied Round 10, and Fire Phoenix had defended the bronze medals successfully.

Three of the teams at the indoor championship had also competed at the Italian Outdoor Nationals 2023, as the NSL News reported on October 9th, Aerogravity and Panik in the AAA Class, The Walkers in the Rookie Class. Aerogravity added indoor silver medals to their collection, after the 3rd place behind Amnesya and EX3mo Fire at the outdoor championship in September.

Amnesya and EX3mo Fire both did not attend the indoor event, where some of the team members had other assignments, and Aerogravity used the silver-medal opportunity.

Amnesya founder Giuseppe Cossu was back in action with his new indoor team Fly X, who competed for Italy at the 4th FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship, and he had once again Arianna De Benedetti in his indoor lineup. The NSL News had covered her comeback with the update on 16 November 2022, and she has been back in 4-way action at each of the Fly X meets ever since.

This year's indoor championship was even more special for Fly X, as Livio Piccolo re-joined the lineup, as well. He and his Amnesya team mates Chiara Brunetti and Ivan Quadrio competed with Giuseppe Cossu when Fly X was launched at the Italian Indoor Nationals 2019.

Livio Piccolo had joined Amnesya when Michele Silvi was recruited by NMP PCH HayaBusa, and he has not missed a competition with the Italian national outdoor team yet. However, it was his first indoor competition with Fly X since 2019, and he replaced his former Sinapsi team mate Marco Arrigo, who was still in the Fly X lineup at the indoor world championship in Slovakia this April.

Chiara Brunetti is Livio Piccolo's current Amnesya team mate, and they were also together in the original Fly X lineup of 2019. They competed together for Amnysia at the 23rd FAI World Cup of Formation Skydiving in Norway.
