Did You Know...

... that teams from Czech Republic and Poland dueled twice at Flyspot Katovice?

AAA Class awards at the Flyspot Open 2023
posted Nov 12th, 2023 - The AAA Class competition at this year's Flyspot Open in Katovice featured three duels with exciting competition through all ten rounds. Two of these three duels were special, as they both pitched teams from Poland and the Czech Republic directly against each other.

The first one took place on the very top of the leaderboard and engaged the national indoor and outdoor 4-way teams of both countries in a 10-round battle, Poland's home team Flyspot Sky4Four and Skywalkers Junior. This first duel was even more interesting due to very different history of the two teams.

Sky4Four have been on NSL News leaderboards since 2014, with two original team members, Michal Baranski and Zbigniew Kordzikowski, who are still actively competing. Skywalkers Junior Krystof Rulf began with 4-way competition as a 4-way junior in 2017. His team mate Antonín Ondracek became an HF Chameleons junior in 2019, while Krystof Rulf and Martin Stransky trained and competed in 4-way Junior with HF Flying Rebels at the same time. All five Skywalkers Junior members, including Filip Lukavec, who is still training and competing with HF Chameleons, as well, were still with their 4-way junior teams when they posted scores on the same AAA Class leaderboard of the Flyspot Open 2022, where Sky4Four took the 2nd place behind the Italian team FLY X.

The next Flyspot Open competition took place a year later last week, and Sky4Four were back with the same lineup of the past few years and on the same 21+ indoor scoring level.

The winning AAA Class team did not come from Italy this year though, as there was a separate national indoor championship at Aero Gravity last month.

The Sky Walkers from the Czech Republic attended their first indoor competition at Flyspot Katovice, after posting outdoor scores at three meets this year, including the 1st place at the national outdoor championship in August. They finished with 21.7 after 16 point deductions, which was still enough to win the Flyspot Open by three points.

HF Flying Rebels had competed in the 4-way Junior event of the 4th FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship before Michal Mikulisek, Krystof Rulf and Martin Stransky continued with outdoor training and competition for Skywalkers Junior, together with Filip Lukavec and Antonin Ondracek of the former Chameleons lineup. The new combination of last year's HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons juniors now outscored Sky4Four at their first indoor meet as 4-way seniors.

HF Chameleons in 2017
The HF Chameleons attended the Flyspot Open 2023, as well, as they continue with their new lineup until the next indoor world championship in 2025. Their competition with the Polish opponent, MAD Team, was even closer than the 3-point battle between Skywalkers Junior and Flyspot Sky4Four.

The HF Chameleons wiped out a 6-point lead of MAD Team after Round 9 and forced the Polish team into a tie-breaking extra round by winning Round 10 by the same margin. Both teams then lost seven points in the judging room in Round 11, and HF Chameleons still won by four points.

It was not the complete new HF Chameleons lineup who won the bronze medals at Flyspot Katovice. Krystyna Cejkova was not available for the trip to Poland, and Jan Klapka took the tail slot for her. The three 4-way juniors of the HF Chameleons lineup and 4-way senior substitute Jan Klapka were able to maintain the team's performance and scoring level and launched their 2023/2024 indoor season with the 18.3 average. The Czech teams will follow up this week with their first meet of the new World Tunnel League season at the Hurricane Factory in Prague.
