Did You Know...

... that Jazz Republic qualified as South Africa's national indoor team?

Jazz Republic at the Flyspot Open 2023
posted Nov 13th, 2023 - It does not happen very often that one single leaderboard features only exciting competition from the top to the bottom. This was the case though at the Flyspot Open 2023 where six teams engaged each other in three different 10-round duels.

The NSL News covered the first two duels with the update on November 12th. The two national teams from Czech Republic and Poland, Skywalkers Junior and Flyspot Sky4Four, were separated by three points after the ten rounds. HF Chameleons and MAD Team from the same countries had the second duel for the bronze medals and needed an extra round to break their tie.

The third AAA Class duel brought a team from a different country into the game. The Polish home team Flyspot Omega was challenged by Jazz Republic from South Africa, and these two teams were tied in 5th place. There was no need for an extra round, as they did not compete for medals of the open championship.

The Flyspot Open included the official South African indoor championship as the qualification for the next FAI/ISC event. South Africa does not have its own windtunnel, and potential candidates for the country's representation have to travel to other places, this time to Flyspot in Katovice, Poland.

The NSL News reported on 16 November 2022 how the situation was the same for Italian 4-way teams at the Flyspot Open 2022. Italy had indoor championships at Aero Gravity this year, and no traveling was necessary.

Jazz Republic had to attend the ISR Grand Prix 2022 in Roosendaal, Netherlands, last year to qualify as South Africa's national indoor 4-way team. The South African team, with InTime owners and FAI judges Claire King and Dirk Venter in the lineup, competed for their country at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018, which they qualified for at the World Challenge 2018.

The same Jazz Republic lineup who competed at Flyspot last week attended their last indoor meet together a year ago in Roosendaal. They are now qualified again as the national indoor team, while they have no plans yet for the next indoor world cup in China.

However, team members Simba Marcellin and Colin Rothman will continue with more indoor training soon, when they rejoin Savolo, South Africa's national outdoor team. South Africa's national outdoor championships are usually scheduled for April.

Showdown with HF Cubs this week: Skywalkers Junior at Flyspot Katovice
Nine of the 16 teams at Flyspot Katovice visited from the Czech Republic, including several lineups of Jan Klapka's 4-way Junior team project. Six of the nine Czech teams have only a few days for traveling back home and then visiting the Hurricane Factory in Prague, where the first World Tunnel League meet of the winter season is scheduled for this Wednesday.

Skywalkers Junior will be facing the HF Cubs, the only Czech 4-way team that could challenge the new outdoor champions' top position. The HF Cubs, 4-way Junior world champions at Weembi 2019 and 4-way Women world cup champions at Charleroi 2022 have not attended a competition since they posted the 25.8 average at the 4th FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship.

The members of Skywalkers Junior and HF Cubs know each other very well after years together in the Czech 4-way junior project, the Skywalkers Junior members with Flying Rebels and Chameleons, the Cubs with their all-female lineup. They are now the two best 4-way teams in the country and will meet each other for the first time with their current lineups. The HF Chameleons will be back together with their complete lineup, and Flyspot substitute Jan Klapka competes with his M Team.
