Did You Know...

... that ISR FireFlash and OOTB both finished with Grand Prix record averages?

Belgian bronze medals for FamilyFlash (right)
posted Nov 26th, 2023 - Sven Ibens recapitulated his live experiences with ISR FireFlash at the Weembinamic 2023 during the recent NSL Live Talk. He mentioned that his team would be back in 4-way action just a day after the interview, less than a week after the completion of the previous competition at Weembi Lille in France.

ISR FireFlash would have to switch back from the special Weembinamic format to the traditional one in Roosendaal. He explained that there is a different psychology between the two different formats, even though the sequences are being drawn from the same dive pool, and the technical execution of the maneuvers does not change at all.

ISR FireFlash were successful with both formats, as they finished in 2nd place at the first competition at Weembi Lille with new member Lena Clynhens and followed up with the 1st place at the ISR Grand Prix 2023 on Saturday. The second Belgian team at the Weembinamic, Garudas, was the only one that attended both events, as well. A total of 34 different AAA Class teams competed within one week at the two events.

It is normal procedure at the Weembinamic that competitors perform the same sequences with several different teams, as the NSL News pointed out during the event coverage. The ISR FireFlash members did not have any double duties at Weembi Lille, while Sven Ibens joined a second lineup in Roosendaal on Saturday.

Out Of The Blue family at the ISR Grand Prix
Sven Ibens said during the NSL Live Talk that his family, wife Annelies Hasewinkel-Ibens and son Siem Ibens, would be back in 4-way action at the ISR Grand Prix, as well.

The family combination of two FireFlash members (Lena Clynhens, Sven Ibens) and his wife and son had won bronze medals at the Belgian Outdoor Nationals, as the NSL News reported on September 14th.

The complete Ibens family was back for the ISR Grand Prix with a new team member. Out Of The Blue's team videographer Leon van Leeuwen was not needed for the indoor competition in Roosendaal, and he took the open slot instead of Lena Clynhens. That's when the team name changed from FamilyFlash to FSH2.

Leon van Leeuwen switched back from the video slot to the action in front of the camera. He was one of the original OOTB members of 2017, when Bart Daenen was still filming the Dutch national 4-way team. Eventually they switched slots, and Leon van Leeuwen has been on camera for Out Of The Blue since 2019.

Leon van Leeuwen now came back to 4-way action by completing the ISF FireFlash lineup for the ISR Grand Prix, and he helped Siem Ibens to post his first indoor scores.

Out Of The Blue in 2017
Leon van Leeuwen's own team was engaged in the battle for the 1st place on the AAA Class leaderboard while he competed with OOTB opponent Sven Ibens for FSH2. The Dutch team finished with a new team record average, significantly higher than the previous 24.1 at the ISR Grand Prix 2022.

OOTB won the event last year, and this year's 26.6 was still not enough to fend off ISR FireFlash with new team member Lena Clynhens. The last time that FireFlash competed in Roosendaal was at the ISR Grand Prix 2019 where they won with Wesley Claessens and the previous lineup. The 27.8 average in November 2019 was almost identical with the 27.9 on Saturday.

ISR FireFlash eventually allowed OOTB only one tied round and won the other seven for a 10-point lead after Round 8. Both teams on the top of the leaderboard managed to finish ahead of two very well known 4-way teams, who both competed with new lineups, as well.

NMP PCH HayaBusa attended the first competition with new member Ray Lodens, who has to take a break now for the basic military training. David Grauwels will be back in the lineup at the upcoming Belgian indoor championship. Echochamber outscored HayaBusa by one point with Kenneth Eriksson in the lineup for Rikard Rodensjö. The NSL News will follow up soon with the videos and more coverage of this 1-point battle.
