posted Dec 5th, 2023 - The ISR Grand Prix 2023 was once again the national indoor championship for the teams from the Netherlands, as the NSL News reported on November 30th. A total of 19 Dutch 4-way teams competed in all four NSL categories to crown their national indoor champions.

The 4-way delegation from Belgium was not too far behind with their own 12 teams in Roosendaal. However, they were guest teams at the Dutch indoor nationals, together with 14 other teams from seven different countries. The visiting Belgian delegation still turned out as the strongest one, with two 1st places (AAA: ISR FireFlash, A: Hybris) and another 3rd place by The Loop in the A Class.

The Dutch home delegation won the Rookie Class (Ladies First), Out Of The Blue finished 2nd in AAA, and Dutch AA champion Funky Falcon placed 3rd on the open international leaderboard. Echochamber (AAA - 3rd - Sweden), SuisseR (AA - 1st - Switzerland), Vollgas (AA - 2nd - Germany), The Walkers (A - 2nd - Italy) and Sky Zone (RRR - 2nd Romania) took the other Top 3 spots. Sweden and Italy had already completed their national indoor championship before Echochamber and five Italian teams (Phinergy, Full Power, Zero, Dopamine, The Walkers) traveled to Roosendaal. The 12 Belgian teams may be back in 4-way indoor action this coming weekend.

The ISR Grand Prix is a popular and entertaining event, while it served as a warm-up competition for the Belgian teams this year. The country's national indoor championship took place in March 2022 last time, and it was moved to December and the upcoming weekend for the 2023 championship.

The circumstances are very interesting, as the surprise visit of NMP PCH HayaBusa in Roosendaal ended with a placing outside of the Top 3 for the 4-way world champions of 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021. The members of the complete new HayaBusa lineup were aware of the situation and the possibility of ending up behind other top teams. However, the value of competition experience for new member Ray Lodens was more important, as Dennis Praet explained during the NSL Live Talk on November 30th.

It could become even more interesting now, when the only original HayaBusa member David Grauwels puts his camera helmet aside and steps into his inside center slot, where he won three of his 4-way gold medals. He had switched to the camera slot when the new HayaBusa lineup won the 2021 world championship with center inside Michele Silvi. The next lineup with new member Neal Willems (Dennis Praet, Jeroen Nollet, Michele Silvi) placed 3rd at the 4th FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship in April this year with a 30.4 average.

David Grauwels now moves back to his inside center slot that he had since 2009, after Luc Verstrepen left the team. Neal Willems and David Grauwels have never competed together in the same lineup, not counting David Grauwels' position as the HayaBusa videographer. Neal Willems now switches to tail and has David Grauwels as his new piece partner. Jeroen Nollet has the biggest move from tail to point, where new outside center Dennis Praet connects with him.

Both HayaBusa pieces are totally new, and only David Grauwels continues in his usual slot. The new pieces have never performed a competition round together yet. Dennis Praet leaves his point slot that he had when he won his four gold medals, together with piece partner Andy Grauwels. Jeroen Nollet has won three gold medals in the tail slot. The HayaBusa lineup for the coming weekend has never posted a 4-way score yet.

At the same time, ISR FireFlash presented themselves in top shape, first at the Weembinamic 2023, followed by the 27.9 average at the ISR Grand Prix 2023. ISR FireFlash are probably planning to challenge NMP PCH HayaBusa the same way as they did in Roosendaal.

New HayaBusa member Ray Lodens will watch his team's performance and Dennis Praet in the point slot carefully from the outside, as he is now in military training, and David Grauwels needs to get in shape and step in later again for the CISM World Championship. Ray Lodens will also be able to follow again his brother Ryan Lodens' performance. His team Hybris won the A Class competition in Roosendaal and will try to win in the same category in Belgium. Hybris are the Belgian Rookie Class champions of 2022.
