posted Dec 16th, 2023 - NMP PCH HayaBusa continued with indoor training a few days after the first and only competition with the CISM lineup before trying to defend the military world championship title in July next year. It was a 3-day indoor camp, and the complete lineup took the time for NSL Live Talk at the end of the second training session on Thursday.

The NSL News had reported the details of the lineup for the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2023 on December 11th, the day after the meet weekend and HayaBusa's 27.5 performance. It was very interesting to hear the comments of the team members after their meet experiences with the very scrambled lineup.

NMP PCH HayaBusa will continue the training with the two different lineups until the CISM competition in July. Goal is to keep bringing new member Ray Lodens up to the 4-way top level as quickly as possible and allowing David Grauwels enough time to feel current when it is time for the CISM competition.

This requires Jeroen "Bob" Nollet to switch back between point and tail slot, Neal Willems to work the center and practice the tail slot depending on whether Ray Lodens or David Grauwels show up for a training day. Of course, the team has respective plans ahead of time for the different lineups. Dennis Praet is the new outside center for both lineups, David Grauwels inside center when it is his turn. HayaBusa will continue only with the new lineup and Ray Lodens after the CISM competition when David Grauwels switches back to the camera slot.

David Grauwels reported sore muscles after the competition and the following intensive indoor training, and the team said that new member Ray Lodens was rushing from the military barracks to Airspace Indoor Skydiving in Charleroi to watch the competition of his new team, and also the performance of his brother Ryan Lodens with Hybris in the AA Class.

There was also a visiting guest team in Charleroi, FCUK Weembi, who were obviously curious to see NMP PCH HayaBusa in action, as well. They may have even expected a chance to offer the Belgians serious opposition in the team's first confrontation with the three former 4-way world champions and their scrambled lineup.

FCUK Weembi had finished with a 27.2 average in 4th place on the traditional leaderboard of the Weembinamic 2023, where ISR FireFlash placed 2nd with a 27.9 average. ISR FireFlash then continued a week later at the ISR Grand Prix and they defeated NMP PCH HayaBusa (27.9 - 24.5) in Roosendaal.

By the pure numbers, FCUK Weembi could have been in contention with NMP PCH HayaBusa for the top spot on the open Belgian AAA Class leaderboard. However, even the scrambled lineup was too strong with the three former world champions David Grauwels, Dennis Praet and Jeroen Nollet.

One of the FCUK Weembi members, Julien Degen, has been used to oppose NMP PCH HayaBusa for many years, with all ups and downs of exciting 4-way competition. Three members of the CISM lineup (David Grauwels, Dennis Praet, Jeroen Nollet) have met Julien Degen as a member of the French national 4-way teams many times.

In fact, Julien Degen is one of the very few 4-way competitors who have defeated NMP PCH HayaBusa at any 4-way competition between 2014 and 2021. Only the Weembi High Rollers (Christine Malnis, Sophia Pecout, Roy Janssen, Julien Degen) ever placed ahead of the Belgians, which happened at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018 within this specific time frame of HayaBusa dominance.

David Grauwels, Dennis Praet and Jeroen Nollet were in the 2018 lineup, together with Andy Grauwels. Only David and Andy Grauwels were in the lineup when HayaBusa were facing Julien Degen for the first time at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2007. Julien Degen's future team mate of the Weembi High Rollers, Roy Janssen, was the tail for HayaBusa Defence at that time.

HayaBusa won the duel with France in 2007, while both finished 2nd and 3rd in reverse order behind Airspeed Odyssey a year later at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2008 in Maubeuge. Julien Degen then became 8-way world champion in 2006 and 2008, 4-way world champions in 2010. David Grauwels, Dennis Praet and Jeroen Nollet won their first title together in 2016 and added more 4-way gold in 2018 and 2021. Julien Degen could not stop them at the Belgian Indoor Nationals with FCUK Weembi.
