Did You Know...

... that Garudas completed the first AAA Class year on the Belgium podium?

posted Dec 17th, 2023 - The recent updates from the Belgian open indoor championship included an overview of the competition time that Frenchman Julien Degen has spent together with NMP PCH HayaBusa members. He is only allowed to compete with one team per respective FAI/ISC category, and he has done this in 4-way and 8-way at indoor and outdoor world championships and world cups.

In fact, he has made a few double-gold attempts with the French national teams in both events at the same world championships, and the NSL News will cover this part of the double-duty history soon. So far, his former team mate and current national coach Mathieu Bernier is still the only Formation Skydiving competitor who has accomplished this Mission Impossible in Menzelinsk 2010.

Things change, not only for Julien Degen, when participation at any events is not restricted by FAI/ISC rules and regulations for the sanctioned world championships and world cups. The NSL News has pointed out regularly when Formation Skydiving competitors appear in more than one lineup and with different teams on the same leaderboard. Julien Degen is probably the world's leader in competing with multiple teams at the same event.

His own events in his home chamber at Weembi Lille, Weembinamic and Weembi FS Cup, allow him and others to join as many lineups as desired. Julien Degen competed with five 4-way teams at the recent Weembinamic 2023 (Black Hole Dynos, Weembi Unicorns, FCUK Weembi, Vedett Weembi, Madness), and he completed ten more rounds with three different teams in 8-way (Ultim8, Once FCUKed Pakoi, Pink Rabbits) on the same weekend.

It was obviously nothing unusual that Julien Degen's name then appeared twice on the same leaderboard at the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2023, where the host also permitted double-duties, at least in different categories. FCUK Weembi were ready for the next indoor competition three weeks after the Weembinamic and traveled to Charleroi in Belgium with the same lineup.

The guest team placed 2nd on the AAA Class leaderboard, and Julien Degen had his second assignment on the AA Class leaderboard for Madness Kama, the winning team in this category. His Belgian AA Class team mate Robin Vezant was the second competitor in Charleroi who competed in two teams and in two different categories.

Robin Vezant won the AA Class with Julien Degen and Madness Kama and placed 2nd with Weltraum Sauerkraut in the A Class. The Loop, winner of this category, competed as a guest team, which lifted Weltraum Sauerkraut to the top position on the A Class podium. The Loop had won the bronze medals of the open A Class competition at the ISR Grand Prix 2023.

AYRO and Garudas were the actual Belgian silver and bronze medalists behind NMP PCH HayaBusa on the AAA Class leaderboard of their national indoor championship. Garudas were finally rewarded with a place on the podium in their third 4-way competition within three weeks. They placed 14th on the traditional leaderboard of the Weembinamic, followed up with a 9th place in Roosendaal and then won bronze medals in Charleroi at the end of the team's first year in AAA Class competition.
