Did You Know...

... that Jan Klapka's Czech teams turned the ICL table in December?

posted Jan 13th, 2024 - The competition for the 2023 top spot of the Indoor Cloud League between the Czech team at the Hurricane Factory in Prague and Kyle Hermberg's iFLY Dallas team in Texas is over and complete. The NSL News covered the exciting finish of the year with a few updates, last time on January 7th.

The iFLY Dallas team was still seven points ahead of Jan Klapka's 4-way juniors and seniors at the Hurricane Factory by then, even though the point difference between the two teams had become smaller and smaller in the months towards the end of the year. The Czech teams and competitors begin to focus more on indoor training and competition after the end of the outdoor season and the national championship, and the scoring numbers begin to increase.

The Czech ICL team won the last four months of the 2023 season, and there was only a 7-point advantage (1204 - 1195) left for iFLY Dallas at the end of November. Jan Klapka's Czech teams then won again in December and eventually turned the small 7-point deficit into the smallest point difference in the Indoor Cloud League history of the same two teams, winning the 2023 competition by ten points (1428 - 1418). There was only one even smaller point difference in the whole history of the Indoor Cloud League since 2012, when the Czech team won by two points over Paraclete XP in 2018 (1461 - 1459).

Jan Klapka's Czech 4-way project has been well documented by the NSL News over the years, and he is not done yet at all, neither with indoor nor with outdoor 4-way activities. He has already won the first FAI gold medals for the Czech Republic, in 4-way Junior and in 4-way Women. Now he is aiming at 4-way Open with the Skywalkers Junior. It's a long road, but Jan Klapka has a vision, and he has been on the 4-way road for a long time by himself.

Kyle Hermberg joined the Indoor Cloud League team at iFLY Dallas as a participant first and became quickly a regular at the events. He took over the management of the Indoor Cloud League team in 2019, and the chart is showing how he guided his participants carefully closer to the Czech leader year by year.

The Hurricane Factory joined the ICL leaderboards first time in 2013, and there was no 4-way junior school or project in the Czech Republic by then. He started his Indoor Cloud League team only with 4-way seniors. His teams took the top spot first time in 2014 and maintained it in 2015 at the time when 12- and 14-foot chambers were still on the same leaderboard. The separation of the different chamber sizes happened in 2016, and the Czech team became the regular monthly winner on the 14-foot leaderboards.

iFLY Dallas Indoor Cloud League team in 2019
The Czech ICL dominance was challenged when Paraclete XP joined the Indoor Cloud League in 2017. Paraclete XP's second year generated the closest finish in ICL history in 2018, and Jan Klapka won by two single points that year (1461 - 1459).

Kyle Hermberg's leadership of the ICL team at iFLY Dallas started slowly in 2019 with the 5th place on the year's leaderboard. He moved up to the 4th place at the end of the compromised 2020 season, and iFLY Dallas took the 1st place in 2021 when the Hurricane Factory was closed for four months. iFLY Dallas was the only team that had scores for each month on the leaderboard of 2021.

Paraclete XP and iFLY Dallas both had complete scores in 2022 when the Hurricane Factory missed only two months, and Kyle Hermberg defended the top spot successfully.

Jan Klapka was finally back in full swing in 2023, and most of the scores were now posted by 4-way junior teams and competitors. It seemed for eight months as if Kyle Hermberg's ICL team in Dallas would still maintain the top spot, until the Czech teams picked up the pace in the last four months and created the exciting 2-team showdown of the year's last few months. XPG4 member Jeana Billings plans to bring back the Paraclete XP team to full swing this year, and the duel of the 2023 season could turn again into a 3-team competition throughout the whole year. Congratulations to Jan Klapka and his Czech teams and to Kyle Hermberg and the Texas teams for an exciting finish last year, and for the development of 4-way competition.
