Did You Know...

... that January is a strong month for the Czech Indoor Cloud League team?

HF Chameleons and Skywalkers Junior at the Czech Indoor Open
posted Feb 2nd, 2024 - The ongoing exciting duel between the current Czech national champion in 4-way outdoor competition (Skywalkers Junior) and 4-way indoor competition (HF Chameleons) has been taking place consistently on two different stages, which are closely connected to each other.

Both teams compete at the monthly 10-round meets of the Czech Tunnel League between November and April, and they also challenge each other every month of the year for the Czech highscores on the Indoor Cloud League leaderboard. They both usually perform the two Open Class sequences (AAA/AA) at the Hurricane Factory, even though the HF Chameleons juniors would still be eligible for the 4-point sequences of the AA Class, as well, according to the international FAI/ISC rules for the 4-way Junior event.

The Indoor Cloud League rules of the NSL 4-way Network exclude teams and participants from competing in four of the six categories (A/RRR/RR/R) once they have posted 25-points or higher twice in any of them. Then they have to step up to the next level in the progression to the complete FAI/ISC dive pool and rules. The same duel regularly generates different results between Skywalkers Junior and HF Chameleons. Most recently, Skywalkers Junior won the 10-round competition of the Czech Tunnel League at the beginning of January, and the HF Chameleons took the top spot a week later at the Czech Indoor Open 2024.

Indoor Cloud League January 2024: Hurricane Factory Highscores
A Class highscore in January: M Team
The power ranking between Skywalkers Junior and HF Chameleons then changed again on the January leaderboard of the Indoor Cloud League. Skywalkers Junior won both sequences (AAA/AA) clearly this time (52 - 44). The 4-way juniors of the HF Chameleons had outlasted the 4-way seniors of the Skywalkers by two points at the 10-round meet in January and ended up eight points behind for the two ICL January sequences.

Both teams have completed five 10-round meets since the beginning of the indoor winter season in November. They have consistently improved their performance and lifted their scoring level to 25+ averages, HF Chameleons from 18.3 in November 2023, Skywalkers Junior beginning at 21.7 at the same time.

The duel between Skywalkers Junior and HF Chameleons, which helps to raise their performance level, is well observed by the younger teams and competitors in Jan Klapka's 4-way junior school. Three other junior teams (Helicopters, Sharks, Unicorns) are beginning to challenge the two senior teams (M Team, Accord) for the A Class highscores on the ICL leaderboards. M Team and Accord compete with each other for the remaining highscore in the A Class that they are still eligible for before reaching the 25+ limit. Jan Klapka's M Team won the senior duel with Accord by three points (43 - 40) for the three January sequences that both teams performed. However, the Helicopters have already moved dangerously close and will probably soon contribute more A Class highscores in the 20+ area.

The summary of the Hurricane Factory's presence on the Indoor Cloud League 14+ leaderboards since 2016 is reflecting the strength of the Czech teams in the winter months. Jan Klapka runs the indoor season with the monthly 10-round competitions between November and April when the weather does not allow much of outdoor activities.

The senior teams turn to outdoor training and competition after the last indoor meet in April. School vacation and family holidays in the summer even keep the 4-way juniors away from the Hurricane Factory at times. The monthly total for the Indoor Cloud League sequences decreases often during the summer and begins to increase with the beginning of the winter season in the last quarter of the calendar year.

That seems to be the time when the Czech teams are collecting a lot of highscores on the ICL leaderboards, even though the 4-way junior school program continues throughout the summer and still generates enough ICL scoring points for the position on the top of the leaderboard. January is a very good time for the Czech teams at the Hurricane Factory. They have won this month five consecutive times between 2016 and 2020. Only last year's 119 points was not the highest January total. However, the 138 points for last month is the newest number to beat.
