Did You Know...

... that GKXP8 and Qatar Falcons switch back to indoor competition?

Paraclete XP lineup in 2008
posted Feb 22nd, 2024 - The Paraclete XP Indoor Championship was launched as a 4-way indoor competition in 2008, mostly with teams from North Carolina. The Paraclete XP home team won, with Andy Honigbaum, Kirk Verner, John and Tim D'Annunzio in the lineup.

There was no 8-way indoor competition in the world at that time, even though the windtunnel in Bedford had enough space with its 16-foot flying chamber. The annual World Challenge was only a 4-way competition, until Paul Mayer added 8-way to the event agenda in 2018.

Paraclete XP offered their first 8-way competition as a part of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2011. The Golden Knights won the first 8-way competition at Paraclete XP on their way to the FAI outdoor gold medals in Dubai 2012, and the event has traditionally included 8-way ever since.

The skydiving center in Dubai was next to offer 8-way indoor competition in their new 16-foot flying chamber at the Clash of Champions in 2015, and Julien Degen launched his Weembinamic 8-way competition at Weembi Lille a year later. The FAI Indoor World Championship 2019 then included an unofficial 8-way competition at the same place, after Paraclete XP and Weembi Lille had successfully completed several annual 8-way indoor competitions.

The NSL News reported on February 14th that the annual 4-way events at Paraclete XP and in Ampuriabrava are taking place on the same weekend this year, in a 14-foot flying chamber at the Wind Games, and in the 16-foot chamber at Paraclete XP. The competition in Raeford includes traditionally and once again the annual 8-way competition, and eleven teams have signed up for the ten rounds at Paraclete XP.

The field of 8-way teams includes the currently two best 8-way teams in the world, GKXP8, outdoor world champions of 2021 and 2022, and Qatar Falcons, FAI silver medalists in Eloy 2022. Both teams also competed at the 23rd FAI World Cup of Formation Skydiving in Norway last year, where they placed 1st and 2nd again.

The indoor history of GKXP8 and Qatar Falcons also includes 8-way events last year. Both teams competed first at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2023 and the Qatar Falcons followed up a few months later at the 8-way indoor competition of the Weembi FS Cup 2023.

The complete GKXP8 lineup did not travel to the same event for the 8-way indoor competition. However, team members Jeana Billings and Kirk Verner were at Weembi Lille for player-coaching many of the same 8-way competitors who have been visiting Paraclete XP for the annual 8-way Hell Week and the following 8-way competition at the U.S. indoor championship event. Then they joined other former 4-way and 8-way world champions and competed with Ultim8 Weembi.

The pickup lineup of Formation Skydiving celebrities at Weembi Lille were still not able to defeat the well trained Qatar Falcons who won by 16 points (256 - 240). Jeana Billings and Kirk Verner will be back with GKXP8, and the mission of the Qatar Falcons goes back to reducing the distance to the 8-way world champions.

The Veloce QRF signature team, with Ultim8 Weembi member Martial Ferre in their lineup, will be on a similar mission as the Qatar Falcons. They will try to finish as close as possible to the Qatar team and fend off the multiple other QRF lineups with their world-class player-coaches.
