posted Mar 7th, 2024 - Norway's national indoor championship last weekend brought the original lineup of the DeLand Norgies back together. It was in July 2017 when this happened the last time at the national outdoor championship, and they won without serious opposition. It was two years before original Norgies member Carl-Erik Tuv initiated a new team project that generated the current national teams, Agera in 4-way Open and Thyra in 4-way Women.

The Norgies continued their annual reunions after the pandemic and with different variations of the lineups. They defended the national 4-way outdoor title one more time in 2022 before Agera eventually took the top spot a year later. Norway's current national team in 4-way Open had taken the indoor title already in 2022 and defended the top spot successfully in 2023.

Last weekend, Agera extended the distance to the original lineup of the DeLand Norgies from five points in 2023 (212 - 207) to 39 points (242 - 203). In fact, the DeLand Norgies could finally not keep up with Agera any longer, and they were also facing a new serious opponent with the national team in 4-way Women, Thyra.

The Norgies had to settle in 3rd place, which has never happened on home turf in their entire 4-way career. Thyra lifted their indoor scoring level from 18.8 at last year's national indoor championship to 20.6 last weekend, which was too much for the Norgies. However, Carl-Erik Tuv, who was once again in the tail slot for the Norgies, was glad to witness Thyra's progression, with his daughter Christiane Wilhelmine Sørfjord Tuv in the lineup.

Carl-Erik Tuv, who had also directed the operation of the 23rd FAI World Cup of Formation Skydiving at Skydive Voss in Norway, is now beginning to harvest the results of the 4-way project that he initiated years ago. Thyra already won the next set of FAI medals for Norway with the 3rd place at the 15th FAI European Formation Skydiving Championship, which was embedded in the outdoor world cup.

The new lineup of the Nephtys, French national team in 4-way Women, won the European title in this category, while Thyra collected their first international competition experiences at the same event. Agera took the 7th place on the European leaderboard, while missing the world's Top 10 in 4-way Open with the 11th place.

Agera and Thyra both outscored the Norgies and now follow up with different plans after the national indoor championship. Agera continue with the focus on indoor training and competition until the conclusion of the indoor season at the world cup in China. The very young Thyra lineup decided to begin earlier with the preparations for the 26th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships 2024, which will be the first one for the team. Carl-Erik Tuv travels with Thyra to DeLand in Florida, where they will compete at the Shamrock Showdown 2024. He thinks that the international meet experiences are valuable enough to make the effort.

and Aethers, the national team in 4-way Open, prepare for the competition with a 1-week outdoor training camp in DeLand before meeting their direct opponents of 2024 for the 10-round outdoor competition.

Thyra have the more challenging agenda. They have scheduled an outdoor training camp in DeLand that begins with the Shamrock Showdown. However, Carl-Erik Tuv said that the international meet experiences are highly valuable for the young team, and they accept the tougher schedule to gain the value of the competition experience.

Carl-Erik Tuv knows what he is talking about, as he has won three sets of FAI bronze medals at outdoor world championships for Norway (1999 - 2001 - 2003) with the DeLand Norgies. He travels with the team to DeLand, his home training center in the winter during the time period when the Norgies were one of the best 4-way teams in the world.

Thyra and Nephtys both competed at the 23rd FAI World Cup of Formation Skydiving, which was the home turf for Thyra. Both teams have to return to the United States in October for the outdoor world championship, and the Shamrock Showdown is a good logistical and atheltic test for the major event later this year.
