posted Mar 18th, 2024 - Several other events took place while the Shamrock Showdown 2024 deserved all attention by the NSL News. The coming days will be a combination of the other events' coverage and plenty of aftermath of the outdoor competition at Skydive DeLand. The Shamrock Showdown included once again the popular Skins Game, which was created as a special attraction for all participating teams. Skydive DeLand sponsored the Shamrock Showdown 2024 with cash prizes for the category winners and with an additional purse of $1,000 for the Skins Game.

The AAA Class winner, Arizona Airspeed, took home $500, Aethers in 2nd place collected $300, and the Golden Knights received $200 for the 3rd place in 4-way Open. AA Class winner 4Action and A Class winner Waitin' On A Woman both won $200, as well.

The additional total of $1,000 was dedicated to the Skins Game, where each team can win $200 for a round after handicap, will is assigned to each team after Round 5, and it rewards the team with the best performance in the following rounds (6 to 10). The sophisticated formula keeps adjusting the handicap after each round according to each team's meet average progression.

Shamrock Showdown 2024 - Skins Game leaderboard

The Skins Game has been a part of the Shamrock Showdown since the event was launched, and the NSL News records of it go back to the 2004 event. The update on 23 March 2004 provided some of the details how the purse was divided between the winning teams.

The handicap formula was applied to offer all participating teams an even chance to show their best in each round and be rewarded for a team-specific peak performance. The same formula still works well, as four different teams won the five $200 skins for the five rounds after half-time.

Even Arizona Airspeed could add $200 to their wallet after winning the Super Sequence in Round 9 by eleven points over Aethers. Thyra, the Norwegian national team in 4-way Women, finished in 7th place on the AAA Class leaderboard and still had the best scores after handicap twice. SDC Rhythm XP had their peak in Round 7 when they tied the Golden Knights for the first time at this year's Shamrock Showdown.

Rhythm were obviously highly motivated after Round 7 and won the next round over the U.S. Army team, as well. However, Thyra, now with their complete lineup on the second day of the meet, tied the Chicken Bolts in the same round and won additional $200 in Round 8. The New England team saved their best performance for the last round and outscored Nephtys by less than a point for the remaining $200 in Round 10.

Skydive DeLand's founder and owner Bob Hallet sponsored the $2,400 for prize money and skins and dedicated the Twin Otter to the 4-way competition. Plans for the Shamrock Showdown 2025 are in the works, and the host will once again invite all national teams to test their outdoor skills at the beginning of the year, while additional teams are welcome, as well. The field of teams will be limited to 16 next year, and the event date will be announced shortly. Handicap and Skins Game will continue to be a part of the event.
