Did You Know...

... that Skywalkers Junior and HF Chameleons slowed down this month?

David Grauwels with Czech 4-way juniors
posted Mar 19th, 2024 - The March meet of the Czech Tunnel League had a very similar outcome compared to the February meet, where four very strong Czech AAA Class teams, mostly current and former 4-way juniors, separated themselves from the rest of the field to challenge each other.

However, there was still a significant difference between the two leaderboards. The same four teams were separated by only nine points in February, while Crazy Dragons now finished 30 points ahead of the team in 4th place with a new 24.8 team record average.

Skywalkers Junior, HF Chameleons and HF Cubs all finished well below their previous scoring averages last month, while they had in fact exactly the same distance between each other in the same order. There were reasons why the three teams scored lower than before.

NMP PCH HayaBusa member David Grauwels was back from his recent trip to New Zealand with the Belgian team, and he recommended Skywalkers Junior and HF Chameleons to slow down their pace. He has been working with the team members since they started as 4-way juniors. David Grauwels told them that they should bring more accuracy into their performance style to increase the quality level and eventually score higher.

Crazy Dragons - Skywalkers Junior at the March meet of the Czech Tunnel League
NMP PCH HayaBusa in New Zealand
The Crazy Dragons have the advantage of the same experiences with their previous teams. Dagmar Bezdekova and Martina Vavackova were team mates with HF Flying Circus, the previous Czech national team in 4-way Open. Marian Jeziak trained and competed with Bad Boys, the Czech national champions before Flying Circus. Only Denisa Jeziakova is a former 4-way Junior competitor and has learned more important components for success from her senior team mates.

The lineups of Skywalkers Junior, HF Chameleons and HF Cubs had also changed once again. The update after the February competition reported on February 16th that Skywalkers Junior's Antonin Ondracek completed 30 meet rounds at the previous Czech Tunnel League competition.

It was a little bit easier for him this time, as he completed only 20 rounds, ten with his own team, the Skywalkers Junior, the other ten as outside center for HF Cubs. The HF Chameleons also needed a substitute, as Krystyna Cejkova was still not ready to be back after missing the February competition, as well.

The combination of the personnel changes and David Grauwels' order to slow down the pace, together with a new team record average for Crazy Dragons, explains the larger difference between the same teams' meet averages.

HF Helicopters in the Rookie Class of 2022
The Czech senior duel between Accord and M Team continued behind the four top teams, and Accord won again by an increased margin of 12 points, after a 3-point difference in February. Accord had former Bad Boys member Vaclav Prokes in their lineup, while M Team was missing injured Josef Pasinger. Jirina Klapkova replaced him in the tail slot.

Kiss My Grips from Slovakia were back in action after skipping the February competition, and they posted a higher meet average (14.6) two months after the 13.3 in January.

The rest of the Czech leaderboards was once again under 4-way junior control. Dycky Most had the only senior lineup of the other six teams, and they could fend off the youngest Czech juniors in the Green lineup in the Rookie Class competition. The Moravian junior team Panthers outscored the Helicopters at their last AA Class duel in November last year. This time, Helicopters won six rounds and could even afford a missing score in Round 6 to win the meet, even though Panthers were still three points ahead after the first three rounds. Helicopters had skipped the A Class and moved from RRR to AA with the beginning of the 2023/2024 winter season in November.
