Did You Know...

... that Thyra went from 9.7 on Friday to 15.6 on Saturday?

Thyra lineup in 2022
posted Mar 22nd, 2024 - The NSL News has followed the development of the new Norwegian national team in 4-way Women, Thyra, since the current team members were selected to participate in Carl-Erik Tuv's 4-way project FS2020/2022/2024 that the original DeLand Norgies member started four years ago.

Carl-Erik Tuv did not only initiate the 4-way project with support of members of the Norwegian skydiving federation. He has also been available whenever the two new national teams, Agera in 4-way Open and Thyra in 4-way Women, needed very practical help beyond coaching and administration.

He was in the tail slot for Agera at the 25th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships in Eloy 2022 when the original team member could not make it to Arizona, and he guided Agera through their first outdoor world championship on the ground and in freefall both.

His time for freefall action came again when youngest Thyra member Silvana Disch still had to go to school when her team mates started the travel from Norway to DeLand. She could only arrive a day later, and Carl-Erik Tuv replaced her in the inside center slot for Tyra's first three rounds of the competition on Friday.

Thyra at the Shamrock Showdown 2024
Thyra with Carl-Erik Tuv last Friday
The travel story of the Norwegian 3-way alone was interesting enough. They had squeezed in the Shamrock Showdown after completing their plans for the training camp at Skydive DeLand. Contrary to the French delegation, who had scheduled their training jumps for the time period before the Shamrock Showdown, Thyra launched their time in Florida with the competition and are following up with as much training as possible after the event.

The agenda was even tougher for Camilla Marnor, Alice Solberg and Christiane Wilhelmine Sørfjord Tuv, who traveled and arrived together with Carl-Erik Tuv at 4 am on the first day of the competition. In the meantime, Solly Williams was busy trying to find a videographer for the team.

Eventually, SDC Rhythm XP's Charlie Mcgee agreed to do double-duties with both teams, and Carl-Erik Tuv completed three rounds on Friday after a few hours of sleep for the team.

Silvana Disch arrived timely on Friday evening and was ready to take her own slot for the seven rounds on Saturday. All team members and coach Carl-Erik Tuv still agreed strongly that the unusual efforts to join the competition was greatly worthwhile. They explained during the NSL Live Talk interview what they could take away from the competition and the world class field.

Carl-Erik Tuv was not done after the three competition rounds with Thyra on Friday. He replaced Solly Williams in the center inside slot for Teiwaz on Saturday and added four more competition rounds. Now he shared the Twin Otter load with Thyra, after starting with the Nephtys in the same plane on Friday.

The Thyra members said that watching the best teams in the world in their preparations for competition rounds alone was a valuable experience. They pointed out that they were impressed with how much time the top teams spent on the creepers. Carl-Erik Tuv has been enforcing creeping time due to his own experiences, and watching the preparations of the best teams convinced the Thyra members even more.

Thyra gave back to their coach on the second meet day when the complete lineup performed the missing seven rounds, and Carl-Erik Tuv competed with Teiwaz. Teiwaz with Solly Williams were one point ahead after Round 3, and Thyra without their coach won the remaining seven rounds by 27 points. The performance on the second day was rewarded with two Skins Game prizes and a total of $400 cash from Skydive DeLand. Carl-Erik Tuv said that this is the best that can happen to team and coach both. His work with Thyra is paying back, and together they are aiming at more than just the bronze medal position on the European Skydiving Championship leaderboard. However, one of their strongest opponents, the Nephtys, will do everything that it takes to defend their position ahead of Norway in 4-way Women.
