Did You Know...

... that the ICL Midwest team continues with CSC Constellation XP leadership?

Last ICL Midwest NEXT event in October 2023
posted Mar 27th, 2024 - The ICL Midwest team joined the Indoor Cloud League in August 2020, as the NSL News reported the same month. The members of 4-way team Skydive Midwest NEXT were the driving force who organized and managed the events and activities.

SDMW NEXT had established themselves as one of the best amateur teams in the United States and won USPA championship titles in 4-way Intermediate (2015) and 4-way Advanced (2016). Only Carolina Turbo XP accomplished the same double-gold in two consecutive years, as well, with SDC Rhythm XP member Doug Barron and GKXP8's Andrew Happick in the teams' original lineup.

Skydive Midwest NEXT have not continued yet after their last competition at the USPA Nationals 2023, and there is no indication that the team will be back any time soon. It was unusual that NEXT did not attend the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2024, and the last ICL scores from the Midwest were posted in October 2023.

The update after the ICL event still mentioned that NEXT were planning to continue with the same lineup and covered the complete team history. However, neither the 2023 nor a new NEXT lineup signed up for the national indoor championship, and former team member Greg Oldendick joined Chicken Bolts at his first two meets this year.

ICL Midwest comeback in February 2024
Midwest teams and competitors and new 4-way fans now have a new driving force in their area, as CSC Constellation XP members have resumed ICL Midwest participation in the Indoor Cloud League. They have offered different events for the beginners and more experienced 4-way competitors in the sport, and they posted the first ICL scores and videos of the year for five of the six February sequences, then followed up with a complete set in March.

CSC Constellation XP have their home at the Chicagoland Skydiving Center, host of the USPA Nationals 2018. None of the current or former team members competed at the event, and Constellation was launched in the A Class competition of the Midwest Skydiving League season in 2021.

The first Constellation lineup (Natalie Rodriguez, Rhiannon Lucente, Russell Bayuk, Brad Strock, Omar Al Atassi on camera) missed the bronze medal position at the first USPA Beginner Class championship (A Class) after a jump-off with Air Force Night Fury. They still moved up to the AA Class in 2022 with a new lineup (Natalie Rodriguez, Russell Bayuk, Pressly Bonner, Dan Reuber, Patrick Spyrka on camera) and placed 11th at the USPA Nationals. The next lineup (Natalie Rodriguez, Anne Webster, Russell Bayuk, Dan Reuber, Casey Long on camera) won their first medals with the 2nd place at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2023 and then missed the AA/Intermediate Class bronze medals at last year's national outdoor championship, again in 4th place and three points behind Mile-Hi SpeedRun.

AA/Intermediate Class indoor gold medals in February 2024
Natalie Rodriguez and Russell Bayuk made new plans for the 2024 season with their original team mate Brad Strock and with new member Leslie Noble. The new lineup turned the indoor silver medals of 2023 into gold this year with a new 18.3 team record average.

In the meantime, they had also started with indoor activities for 4-way competitors in their region, and the first Indoor Cloud League scores and videos of the ICL Midwest team were posted in February. Natalie Rodriguez and Russell Bayuk have more plans to extend their 4-way activities, together with their mentors Anne and Paul Webster, and the Indoor Cloud League participation will continue.

As the winner of the national AA/Intermediate Class indoor championship, CSC Constellation XP have to move up to the AAA/Advanced Class competition at the next event in February 2025. However, they still have unfinished business at USPA Nationals where the team has not won a medal yet in any category. The new lineup will try again to win USPA medals this year before moving up and train the whole AAA Class dive pool. The team members still have the opportunity to test the missing six blocks with their slot-switchers at the monthly Indoor Cloud League events, as Natalie Rodriguez and Russell Bayuk did in February and March.
