Did You Know...

... that Echochamber's original lineup travel to China?

Original Echochamber lineup in 2016
posted Apr 7th, 2024 - Sweden's national 4-way indoor and outdoor team Echochamber Oceanside won the national indoor championship in March once again without any serious domestic opposition. The competition was the last test before Echochamber will travel to China this month and compete at the indoor world cup.

Team speaker Ulf Liljenbäck said that his team was happy with the performance, even though the meet average was not on Echochamber's highest level. He said that it was a quite technical competition draw, which is usually advantageous for well trained teams. Easier and faster sequences allow more teams to score higher with a good performance.

The original lineup of Echochamber were back together last month and will compete in China, as well. The Swedish team has been adjusting the lineups according to the availability of the original four team members (Martin Bäcklin, Johan Edvall, Ulf Liljenbäck, Rikard Rodensjö). Alternates, substitutes and new team members (Mattias Nord, Ann-Marie Jarzebowski, Kenneth Eriksson) stepped in whenever the original lineup of 2016 was not complete. Martin Bäcklin, Johan Edvall, Ulf Liljenbäck and Rikard Rodensjö started together in 2016 and won their first Swedish 4-way title a year later when Mattias Nord's former team Volo had retired. He and Volo member Kenneth Eriksson have both joined Echochamber to fill open slots ever since.

Echochamber - Edge at the Swedish Indoor Nationals 2024
Original Echochamber lineup in 2023
Echochamber's original lineup won their first national 4-way title when AAA Class team Edge were formed and attended their first competition in 2017. Both teams competed with the same lineups last month who attended the national indoor championship in February 2017 and copied their meet averages almost exactly.

Echochamber will meet most of the world's best 4-way teams again later this month in China. Johan Edvall, Ulf Liljenbäck and Rikard Rodensjö had competed for Sweden with Mattias Nord in the lineup at the 4th FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship 2023 in Slovakia, where they finished in 6th place.

The original lineup had also placed 6th at their first indoor world cup at Flyspot 2016 (23.8) and 6th at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2017, then won bronze medals at the FAI European Indoor Championship 2018. They finished 7th with 27.4 at the next indoor world championship at Weembi Lille 2019 and did not have the original lineup together at any FAI events after that. They are ready now to get beyond the 6th place for the first time. Arizona Airspeed, French Aethers and Qatar Tigers have their hold on the medal positions, while the positions behind them seem to be in reach for Echochamber and their direct opponents.
