Did You Know...

... that the Northern California Skydiving League is back this weekend?

Skydiver of the Year 2014: Lori Connor
posted May 30th, 2024 - The Northern California Skydiving League was launched by Lori Connor in April 2014, seven years after the former Southwest Skydiving League had split up into the Arizona Skydiving League League and the Southern California Skydiving League.

The whole state of California was still too large for reasonable regional travel distances between the hosting skydiving centers, and Lori Connor created a separate 4-way schedule for the northern part. She organized the events for six years and soon added the Northern California Tunnel League to the 4-way activities in her region.

Indoor Cloud League teams at iFLY Sacramento and iFLY SF Bay also posted scores and videos consistently on the monthly indoor leaderboards. All of the events ended abruptly with the impact of the corona virus crisis.

However, Lori Connor was ready for a comeback in Northern California that she announced on 15 February 2023. She used indoor events to prepare potential participants for the outdoor comeback, as the NSL News reported on 5 May 2023. The comeback event took place on the June 17 weekend, and teams from Northern California shared the leaderboards with 4-way teams in Germany.

Tamara Bartlett with Stockholm Syndrome in 2019
The Northern California Skydiving League continues in 2024, and Lori Connor announced that Tamara Bartlett will be available for any 4-way teams and competitors in the same region. She was happy to work together with Tamara Bartlett during the preparations for the follow-up year after the comeback, as the new NCSL director brings "great energy to the NCSL, with her heart and motivation in such a great place".

Lori Connor herself hopes to be back in action at the outdoor events in the next few months and join in the fun. Tamara Bartlett has the support of judges Dave Thom and Maria Garcia-Sheetz, who has been working together with Lori Connor in the past, as well. Tamara Bartlett will share her own wealth of 4-way experiences directly with her team mates in a new RRR Class lineup, and with all other participating teams.

Tamara Bartlett herself started in a Rookie Class lineup of the Northern California Skydiving League, Lodi Mix, and Lori Connor was the player-coach. Three years later, Tamara Bartlett won her first USPA medal with Stockholm Syndrome at the USPA Nationals 2019.

Eric Daniel was her team mate that year, who would later launch the Indoor Cloud League team at iFLY Colorado Springs. They joined forces again a few years later with Kombucha Punch.

Tamara Bartlett with XPG4 in 2020
Tamara Bartlett was recruited by XPG4 shortly after her time with Stockholm Syndrome and the USPA silver medal in the 4-way AA/Intermediate Class. The 2019 season was also the first year for the new U.S. national team in 4-way Women, who won bronze medals for the U.S. delegation at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2019 in April.

The XPG4 lineup of 2019 did not follow up with outdoor competition, and Morgan Womble and Katrina Autry Shows did not continue with the team. Jeana Billings and Michelle Karamon recruited Tamara Bartlett and Irina Meshcheryakova for the 2020 lineup, and they qualified as the national indoor team in 4-way Women with the 6th place in 4-way Open at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020.

Only Irina Meshcheryakova continued with the 2020 lineup when Morgan Womble returned to indoor and outdoor action. Tamara Bartlett went back to her roots in Colorado and Northern California with the new 4-way Open Class experiences. She re-connected with Lori Connor in Northern California last year who was glad to have her in her coaching staff for the outdoor preparations before the NCSL comeback event, a "Team for a Day" skills camp held at SkyDance Skydiving. The participants were guided through the day by highly experienced 4-way and 8-way competitors, including Tamara Bartlett. This weekend's NCSL teams will share the leaderboards with British 4-way teams.
