posted Jun 6th, 2024 - The NSL News reported on June 3rd that the Czech Indoor Cloud League team at Prague's Hurricane Factory swept the highscores of all six categories in May. This had happened only once in the history of the Indoor Cloud League, in January 2019.

As usual, several Czech 4-way teams battled for the honor of posting the highest score for the Czech ICL delegation. This time, six of the eight Czech teams were 4-way juniors, and three of them won their respective categories and combined for the ICL Sweep in May. Jan Klapka's senior M Team managed to steal one of the highscores with the 19-pointer for the A Class sequence.

The other senior team is actually Skywalkers Junior who have transitioned from 4-way Junior to 4-way Open and from indoor to outdoor training and competition. However, they could not claim any of the two highscores for the Open Class sequences (AAA/AA) as their former junior team mates and opponents of the HF Chameleons won both categories. HF Chameleons are still the Czech national team in 4-way Junior and train only indoors. Only Filip Lukavec has already transitioned to outdoor training and competition, as well, and he is also the 5th team member of Skywalkers Junior. His father Jan Lukavec was Jan Klapka's team mate with the HF Bad Boys, the former Czech national team in 4-way Open.

Skywalkers Junior dominated the AAA/AA duel with HF Chameleons before and shortly after their transition from junior to senior and indoor to outdoor at the Czech events of Indoor Cloud League and Czech Tunnel League, and at other 4-way indoor events that both teams attended. However, step by step HF Chameleons became the indoor experts, as they could focus only on their indoor performance.

It is probably not a big surprise that the situation in the Czech Republic turns out like this, at least at the moment. The world's best 4-way teams, Arizona Airspeed, French Aethers and their coach Mathieu Bernier, NMP PCH HayaBusa, have pointed out regularly in NSL Live Talk conversations that there is a major difference between indoor and outdoor training and competition, which even keeps growing.

It is relatively easy to switch from outdoor to indoor training and competition, even though the indoor experts have their own tricks. Switching from indoor to outdoor is much more challenging, as exit and the first sub-terminal page cannot be copied in any wind tunnel. Skywalkers Junior have to invest into outdoor training, which is their new priority on the way to the world's top level. Result is the fact that HF Chameleons, with the same talent and only indoor training, begin to take the dominating position in this duel. The Czech teams will attend their first competition of the outdoor season this weekend, and Skywalkers Junior will hopefully show the results of their outdoor investment.
