Did You Know...

... that Skywalkers Junior were out of reach on June AAA leaderboard?

SCSL Competition load in Elsinore
posted Jun 12th, 2024 - Two more teams joined the A Class leaderboard after the May/June meet of the Southern California Skydiving League (SCSL), Odd Man Outand Lizard Nuggets. SCSL Director Mary SantAngelo provided a summary of the event:

"The first Southern California Skydiving League of 2024, combined with SoCal SkyQuest, made its debut on Saturday, June 8th, with six 4-way teams. Christy Frikken took the reins from Josh Hall to run the SCSL and created SoCal SkyQuest, to include not only the SCSL events, but events that happen throughout the year at both Elsinore and Perris. Individual scores from all the events will be tracked then calculated at the end of the season for one big award celebration. The end goal is to encourage jumpers to get more teams together and join in more events. Awards include highest score, team spirit, rookie of the year, best geek to the videographers, best funnel, or most epic fail in a dive."

The SCSL teams completed five rounds in Elsinore, the same number of rounds as the British teams at Skydive Sibson, while the teams in Northern California were stopped after Round 4. The combined leaderboard of all A Class teams is showing the rankings after the four completed rounds. The University of 4ORK eventually won the competition in Great Britain by turning the 1-point disadvantage after Round 4 with the 7-pointer in the last round. Rowdy Butterflies were only two points behind the top spot when the meet was over in Northern California.

Czech teams and competitors in Prostejov
The AAA Class leaderboard is showing the highest participation with eight teams from three different leagues. The British and Southern Californian teams completed five rounds, while the Czech teams used the whole weekend to complete the entire competition draw with ten rounds in Prostejov.

SCSL team Speckled Hens won the remote duel with British Army team Volt4ge by one single point, while no AAA Class team could get anywhere close to Skywalkers Junior. The Czech 4-way team with their complete lineup of former 4-way indoor juniors continue on their way to the world's top level after the transition to outdoor training and competition last year.

The NSL News pointed out on June 6th that Skywalkers Junior may have to accept that their young friends and opponents of HF Chameleons take the indoor top spot in the Czech Republic, and in the indoor 4-way junior world, as well. Outdoor training and competition take more time, efforts and resources compared to the indoor environment. However, there are more than enough reasons and rewards for outdoor activities, and Skywalkers Junior are eager to accomplish their outdoor goals. The outdoor progression of Skywalkers Junior is still as promising after the completion of the first outdoor competition in 2024 as it was in the team's first year with exits from jump planes. The recent 15.1 average is the next team record number after the four outdoor competitions since June 2023.

Awards at the competition in Prostejov
Skywalkers Junior started their outdoor team career exactly a year ago, in June 2023. They applied the AA Class competition draw by then, even though all team members have been very familiar with the complete FAI/ISC dive pool, including the slot-switching blocks. HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons both took on the complete dive pool years before they had to, Filip Lukavec and Antonin Ondracek with Chameleons in November 2021, Krystof Rulf and Martin Stranska with the Flying Rebels at the same time.

Michal Mikolasek, Antonín Ondracek, Martin Stransky, Krystof Rulf and Filip Lukavec then launched the Skywalkers Junior outdoor team, while they continued with indoor training and competiton, as most other 4-way teams do. Filip Lukavec is also still a member of the HF Chameleons indoor junior team. Former HF Flying Circus member Jakub Klapka is back on outdoor camera for Skywalkers Junior. Skywalkers Junior competed only once in the AA Class (8.4) and moved up to AAA Class competition (13.6) a month later, in July 2023. Another month later, in August the same year, they won the national outdoor championship with a 14.4 average.

The recent 15.1 average is the outdoor starting point for the 2024 season, and they have already left their previous scoring levels behind. The next outdoor competition is scheduled for the first July weekend in Most, the home turf for Skywalkers Junior.
