Did You Know...

... that former Jetmax member Steven Lopes has joined Ayro?

Jetmax with the Belgian delegation at the ESL Championship 2013
posted Jun 14th, 2024 - The situation of Belgian 4-way team Ayro caught the NSL News attention during NSL Live Talk with NMP PCH HayaBusa members Dennis Praet, Ray Lodens and Neal Willems on 31 March 2024. The two new HayaBusa members, Neal Willems and Ray Lodens, had competed at the BENELUX Indoor Championship, even though HayaBusa did not attend.

They reported from the event that they helped out for other teams instead, Ray Lodens with his brother's team Hybris, Neal Willems with Ayro. The NSL News followed up a week later when Ayro had decided to continue with a new team member after the great and latest 4-way experience with substitute Neal Willems.

It took only less than two months until Els De Bie, Wim Dens and Arne Vandendael finally selected the successor for of their original Ayro team mate Kevin Bruyninckx. Former Jetmax member Steven Lopes has joined the new Ayro lineup in the point slot that he trained and competed in with his former team. This required a slot-switching move for the team, and previous Ayro point Els De Bie has moved from the front to the rear piece and takes the tail slot. Wim Dens (IC) and Arne Vandendael (OC) continue their center work with new piece partners.

Ayro with Neal Willems at the BENELUX Indoor Championship 2024
Original Ayro lineup in 2017
New point Steven Lopes trained and competed with Jetmax for six years as one of the original members. In fact, he was the only original Jetmax member who was still in the lineup when his last team mates of 2019 (Davio Orazio, Julie Regnier, Simon Renard) did not come back to 4-way action with Jetmax after the corona virus crisis.

Steven Lopes started with Caroline Mantia, Olivier Cavier and Joey Soudant in the RRR Class of 2013 and moved up to the A Class with Ludovic Basset, Steve Canas and Simon Renard in 2015. The same Jetmax lineup quickly moved up to the AA Class the next year. Steven Lopes, Ludovic Basset and Simon Renard then continued with Julie Regnier in the AAA Class, beginning in 2017 and until 2019.

Ayro was launched by Els De Bie, Wim Dens, Arne Vandendael and Kevin Bruyninckx in the A Class of 2017. Jetmax had already moved up to the AAA Class at that time. Both teams eventually met each other at the Belgian Outdoor Nationals 2017, even though they still posted their scores on different leaderboards.

They followed up a month later at the ESL Championship 2017 where they collected ESL points together for the Belgian delegation in the two different categories. Germany and Belgium battled for the ESL Spirit, and the German delegation won by four ESL ranking points (34 - 30).

Steven Lopes (2nd from right) with Jetmax at the ESL Championship 2019
Ayro and Jetmax met again in November the same year, when Ayro won the A Class at the ISR Grand Prix, followed by the gold medals a month later at the Belgian Indoor Nationals. It would still take another year until Ayro and Jetmax would post scores on the same AAA Class leaderboard.

Ayro had moved up to AA Class competition when both Belgian teams met again at the World Challenge 2018, and they were still separated at the Belgian Outdoor Nationals 2018. They worked together again for the Belgian delegation at the ESL Championship. This time they won by one point over Germany.

They competed at the same events two more times at the end of the 2018 season before it was finally time for the first direct showdown on a AAA Class leaderboard. It was the ESL Championship 2019 where Ayro outscored a different Jetmax lineup. The outcome was still the same at the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2019, even though Ayro and Jetmax were separated by only three points this time. It was the last competition for Jetmax, and Steven Lopes went into 4-way hibernation until Ayro invited him to come back with his former opponents. Ayro will miss the Tomscat Trophy this weekend and then compete at the BENELUX Outdoor Championship and the ESL Championship with the new lineup.
