posted Jun 20th, 2024 - The Dutch teams were out of luck last weekend when teams in the United States, Germany and Netherlands created the four leaderboards by using the same competition draw of the NSL 4-way Network. The weather situation allowed only the completion of one single round in Hoogeveen.

The scores of the AAA Class teams behind German national 4-way teams Airbus Illertissen Oceanside and the substitute variation of Meltemi Oceanside Illertissen (Der Adapter) promised an interesting battle between the other German and Dutch teams and the guests from Austria, Black Mantis. Dutch A Class teams 4igami 2.0 and 4 No Reason had a promising start into the competition, as well.

However, the Dutch teams were stopped after Round 1, and the combined leaderboard is showing all scores only for the first round, while most of the other teams completed the whole 10-round competition at Skydive Paranodon in Illertissen and at Skydive AerOhio in the Midwestern U.S. state.

The Dutch teams have two more opportunities for outdoor competition this year. The national championship will be a part of the BENELUX Outdoor Championship, which continues a new tradition of merging national championships in Belgian, Netherlands and Luxembourg. The BENELUX Indoor Championship applied the format successfully earlier this year, after Belgium and Netherlands started it together in September 2023.

The second outdoor competition is the ESL Championship 2024, where organizer Mike Pennock brings back together teams from all across Europe. The annual ESL Championship goes all the way back to the beginnings of the National Skydiving League, when participating teams in the United States concluded the 4-way season at the NSL Championship, European teams at the ESL Championship.

The first documented event in the NSL News records was the ESL Championship 2005 at Skydive Spa in Belgium, with the first lineup of NMP PCH HayaBusa on top of the AAA Class leaderboard. The corona virus crisis interfered with the ESL Championship just as much as with all other events, and Mike Pennock tried to bring back the popular event in 2022.

30 European teams competed at the ESL Championship 2019, while 59 other teams posted scores at the USPA Nationals 2019, including NMP PCH HayaBusa on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Both events had their own and separate competition draws.

The Fallschirmsportzentrum (FSZ) Saar had been the host of the previous ESL Championship in 2018, and Mike Pennock is hosting this year's ESL Championship back in Saarlouis. FSZ Saar is the same place where the dramatic 8-way battle between Airbus 8-way and Operation Adler took place last year at the German outdoor championship. The ESL Championship 2024 is scheduled for September 22 - 23, a week after the USPA Nationals, and the NSL News will follow up with more details.
