Did You Know...

... that the A Class run for USPA medals has already begun?

Singularity for ICL Midwest in May
posted Jun 24th, 2024 - The three different leaderboards of the last two weekends also featured a total of 14 A Class teams, and some of them will most likely compete in the 4-way Beginner category at this year's USPA Nationals in September. Three of the teams were covered earlier by the NSL News. Florida Skydiving League team AirGo and Great Lakes Skydiving League team AerOhio Resurgence have attended previous 4-way meets, while CSC Singularity posted their first outdoor scores at the Cloud Games.

Midwest team CSC Singularity is not new to 4-way training and competition, as the NSL News reported on April 25th. Team members have been participating at Indoor Cloud League events under the guidance of CSC Constellation XP.

Abby Smat, Gus Bitterbender and Hemanth Kiran contributed the RRR Class highscore for the ICL Midwest team in April, with player-coach Katie Healy substituting for Eric Sweet, and the complete lineup was ready to post their first outdoor scores on home turf for the Cloud Games. CSC Constellation XP members Natalie Rodriguez and Russell Bayuk were available to assist the new team, and the 5.4 average won the 1st place of nine teams on the A Class leaderboard of the Cloud Games.

Ed Ganley at work with AerOhio Resurgence
The NSL News also reported on June 17th that the Great Lakes Skydiving League had a new AA Class team that started their AA Class career with an impressive performance. The same leaderboard at the AerOhio Skydiving Center also featured A Class team AerOhio Resurgence on a similar scoring level as CSC Singularity XP in the Midwest.

Ed Ganley created the team in 2023 when the Great Lakes Skydiving League had its comeback after a 17-year hibernation. The first Resurgence lineup competed in the RRR Class at the June 2023 meet. Ed Ganley continued with Shayna Reddick and two new team members in the A Class last August.

Ed Ganley, Shayna Reddick and Jacob Choy were back a year later with new Resurgence member Haley Zahnow for the competition rounds on Saturday. AerOhio owner Sherry Butcher joined the lineup on the second day of the competition.

Ed Ganley is the only Resurgence member with AA Class experiences. He competed with Mustangs! at the USPA Nationals 2023, the Intermediate Class team with multiple 4-way VFS world champion Jason Russell in the lineup.

Al Etienne (right) with CitiZens in 2023
The latest A Class information came from the Paraclete XP Summer Classic, where Florida team AirGo attended their third competition this year with the same lineup. Father Al Etienne trains and competes with his twin daughters Hannah and Rebekah, Jason King completes the lineup, with Justin Bender on camera.

Hannah and Rebekah Etienne both have barely over 100 jumps, after going through AFF training with their father little over a year ago. Mother Kimberly Etienne started with the team, as well, and had to step back due to a knee injury. That's when Jason King took the open inside center slot and switched to tail before the first competition at the Shamrock Showdown 2023. Hannah Etienne is now controlling the center work, together with her father Al in the outside center slot.

Al Etienne is a defending A/Beginner Class champion, as he won a USPA gold medal in the tail slot with CitiZens last year. He is the only team member with any previous competition experiences. AirGo completed their eight rounds at Paraclete XP once again with a new team record average, despite the two lowest scores for the two fastest sequences with only random formations. The scoring average will probably increase significantly as soon as AirGo control the random transitions, and Al Etienne could have a chance to defend his USPA title successfully, together with his twin daughters.
