Did You Know...

... that Skywalkers Junior did not have 5 seconds before the start of working time?

Awards at the CZSL July meet in Most
posted Jul 8th, 2024 - The current weather break at the CISM World Championship in Hungary is a good opportunity to catch up with other events that happened last weekend. However, the weather was apparently not much better in Great Britain, where a total of 15 teams were present at Netheravon for the last test before the national outdoor championship in August.

Only one single round could be completed at the third meet of the United Kingdom Skydiving League. The British 4-way teams had bad luck with the weather so far this year, as only three rounds were completed in May. Five rounds at the June meet were a lot compared to the two other UKSL events.

The two Czech teams in Most were able to complete eight rounds, which was better than in Hungary and Great Britain both. British and Czech teams used the same competition draw once again, as they had done it on the June weekend, when additional U.S. teams on the same leaderboards had made it even more interesting. The same three British AAA Class teams at the June meet were in the same order after the first round in Netheravon, while three different AA Class teams completed the only round last weekend.

Exit challenges: Skywalkers Junior
Skywalkers Junior were on their way to increase their meet average again, as they have done at each of their four previous outdoor competitions. They were already sitting on the new 15.5 team record average, before two of the faster sequences last weekend would have concluded a 10-round competition.

The former Czech 4-way juniors had realistically entered the 16+ scoring level considering the challenges of the exit situation from the PAC jump plane. Skywalkers Junior had to launch a standard formation for each round to survive the exit in decently stable condition and then build the first formation of the respective sequences.

The additional time for exit and moving to the beginning of the actual sequence caused even more trouble, as the team videographer was not ready to present adequate footage to the judges timely, after the exit challenge. Skywalkers Junior lost a total of nine points in the eight completed rounds, all of them caused by the same infamous "Camera Angle/Grip Visibility" notifications on the scoresheets.

The nine lost points alone would have lifted the scoring average easily to the 16+ level, and 17+ could have been in reach with the additional two missing rounds and an easier exit door.

Complimentary medals for Panthers
The CISM teams in Hungary, and at any other previous CISM events, have the five seconds after the exit that team and videographer can use to be ready for the start of the actual working time. The 35 seconds for 4-way teams that apply the FAI/ISC rules for world championships, world cups and national championships, begin with the exit, as the NSL News mentioned on July 5th, after the exit troubles of the Qatar Tigers in Hungary.

Skywalkers Junior have another outdoor opportunity coming, the national championship, where they might be able to show their full potential, if the jump plane allows more successful exits and sub-terminal maneuvers.

In the meantime, Jan Klapka has guided his next 4-way juniors to the starting point in outdoor training and competition. Moravian junior team Panthers have two team members who were in Most last weekend. They were not ready for competition yet and trained with former HF Flying Circus member Dagmar Bezdekova and Patricia Herdicky from Slovakia, while Skywalkers Junior and M Team posted scores on the AAA Class leaderboard. Elen Zielinska and Mikulas Velickou are the two Panthers who continue their 4-way career with guidance by Dagmar Bezdekova They were training at Jan Klapka's junior school in Most while the competition was taking place. Jan Klapka rewarded their training efforts with medals, as well. They will probably turn these complimentary medals into receiving them on the podium after a competition some day soon.
