Did You Know...

... that the world meet schedule may have its own psychology?

Solly Williams with Airbus 4-way
posted Oct 5th, 2024 - The rest of the Friday at Crystal Coast was dedicated to more training jumps for the present teams, setting up the dubbing and judging stations and other logistics. Tent City and the team hangar were busy places for most of the day and only began to thin out in the later afternoon.

The facilities were mostly used by the teams behind the medal contenders, who have been training in previous days leading up to the competition and are already well prepared. The three members of Norway's 4-way Women team Thyra familiarized themselves with the scenic environment before the arrival of substitute Ditta Valsdottir with Agera member Kjetil Viste Levik filling the open slot for a training jump.

Spain's national team in 4-way Open, the military CISM Papea lineup, informed the NSL News that they had a personnel change and did not have much FAI/ISC 4-way training this year. Papea does not seem to be in serious contention for the 5th place any longer, and the NSL Power Rankings in 4-way Open had another and most likely the final adjustment before Round 1 one Sunday morning. The new preview rankings would make the competition for the last position within the Top 10 and behind the contenders for the world's unofficial amateur champion title more interesting, as Papea would still have two strong opponents with Out Of The Blue (Netherlands) and Netunos (Brazil).

World Meet schedule
Coach Solly Williams was still working with German 4-way Open Class team Airbus Oceanside Illertissen into the afternoon, and 4-way Women team Meltemi Oceanside was also in casual training action, as well. Solly Williams still had enough time to share some of his thoughts with the NSL News while watching some of the other teams and their preparations.

He is familiar with the Chinese team in 4-way Women, after coaching them at Skydive DeLand about five years ago and following up with some remote internet coaching this year. He is just as curious as the whole audience of the Formation Skydiving competition audience how the team will oppose the strong U.S. team XPG4.

He had his own thoughts about the old and new Arizona Airspeed lineups, as well, and sees all kind of different options, including Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine reversing their decision to discontinue after Round 10 at Crystal Coast. He was not really serious about it, and it was just an indication that the Airspeed question has to wait until the competition is over. It will also be interesting to see how all the teams will deal with the planned off-days for all events. It is unusual that complete days are not scheduled for horizontal 4-way and 8-way competition, and this format may have its own psychology.
