Did You Know...

... that only Chiara Brunetti won Italian indoor and outdoor championship titles this year?

Chiara Brunetti with Amnesya at the outdoor nationals
posted Oct 30th, 2024 - Italy's 4-way teams transitioned quicker than anybody else from outdoor training and competition to indoor activities. The national outdoor championship was barely completed in September when they had to get ready for the indoor championship in October.

The transition from outdoor to indoor training and competition is actually the easier one, without exits from jump planes, sub-terminal pages and landing the parachutes. The reverse transition requires more efforts and training. Five of the six Italian teams who competed at the outdoor nationals had to switch the mode as quickly as possible.

Amnesya has been the strongest 4-way team in Italy for several years, and the team name was once again on the top of both leaderboards, while the lineups were not the same. Chiara Brunetti, Alessandro Anderlucci, Roberto Mancini and Ivan Quadrio won the outdoor competition, with Sante Valentini on camera.

Only Chiara Brunetti won the indoor championship, as well, with Federico Angelotti, Giuseppe Cossu and Mario Fatturoso in the FLY X Amnesya lineup. Amnesya and FLY X are actually two different teams. FLY X was founded by Giuseppe Cossu who also launched Amnesya in 2015. He eventually discontinued his outdoor training and competition with Amnesya and invited experienced Italian 4-way competitors to join FLY X for indoor training and competition.

Chiara Brunetti with FLY X at the indoor nationals
Chiara Brunetti joined Amnesya in 2016 when eX3MO were still dominating Italian 4-way competition and represented the country at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2016. Amnesya won the national 4-way title first time in 2018 and then competed for Italy in Australia, with Chiara Brunetti, Giuseppe Cossu, Mario Fatturoso and Michele Silvi in the lineup.

Giuseppe Cossu then launched FLY X in 2019, Michele Silvi joined NMP PCH HayaBusa and won his 4-way world championship title in Tanay 2021. Chiara Brunetti continued with Amnesya and FLY X both.

Chiara Brunetti and Michele Silvi met again when Amnesya and NMP PCH HayaBusa both attended the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 in Voss, Norway. Michele Silvi did not continue with the Belgians after the 3rd place in Voss, while Chiara Brunetti was back in action a month later at the Italian outdoor championship and won the next national 4-way outdoor title this year in September.

Amnesya did not compete at the 26th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships, and Chiara Brunetti added the next indoor title with FLY X in October instead. Michele Silvi was back at his Italian roots in October, this time as a coach for Amnesya and his former team mates, and for Aerogravity, silver medalists at both indoor and outdoor events in Italy.

Livio Piccolo with Sinapsi PD in 2006
Italy used to be one of the most consistent countries in participation at outdoor world championships, and they now missed the third one in a row after the corona virus crisis, even though Amnesya had attended the FAI Outdoor World Cup last year. Italy was still represented by eX3MO at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019 after the last showing in Australia 2018.

It seemed like Italy would be back after missing Tanay 2021 and Eloy 2022 when Amnesya competed for their country in Norway 2023. However, Italy had only a 4-way VFS team at Crystal Coast who won the bronze medals. However, FLY X with Chiara Brunetti will probably make plans for the next indoor world championship, after competing at the previous one in Slovakia last year.

Italy did not only have perfectly consistent outdoor presence between 1985 and 2018. The country's national 4-way teams even won FAI medals, with 3rd places in 1991 and 2006. Livio Piccolo, Amnesya member all the way through the outdoor world cup in Norway last year, is one of the still active Italian FAI medalists of 2006. Italy can also proudly look back at the 8-way bronze medals that the Ex3mo 8-way team won in Maubeuge 2008.
