Did You Know...

... that Sequenz won their next indoor title in Denmark with a team record average?

Denmark's indoor championship in Sweden
posted Nov 6th, 2024 - Teams in Denmark were next to switch from outdoor training and competition to indoor activities, and the national indoor championship was scheduled for the beginning of the indoor winter season. Once again, the event did not take place in Denmark, even though there is actually an iFLY facility with a 14-foot flying chamber in Denmark's capital city, Copenhagen.

Danish 4-way teams traveled to Berlin in Germany for previous national championships. The travel distance to the event site was much closer this year, as Scandinavian neighbor country Sweden has one of its three windtunnels in Malmo, right across the Øresund, one of the busiest waterways in the world. The 50-mile-long strait separates Denmark from Sweden, and a bridge connects the two countries for car traffic, while ferries across the waters offer an alternative.

Three Swedish teams used the competition opportunity, together with the 14 Danish teams. Denmark held the national outdoor championship on Danish turf at the end of July, and eight teams were back for the indoor competition three months later. The medal positions on the AAA Class indoor leaderboard were identical with the ones at the outdoor championship, while the outdoor champions in the AA and A Class categories could not defend their top spots successfully.

Sequenz at the Danish Indoor Nationals 2024
Denmark's indoor and outdoor champions: Sequenz
Sequenz have been dominating indoor and outdoor competition in Denmark since September 2022, after a hibernation of almost a decade and a well covered comeback in 2019. The 2022 lineup (Vibeke Birk Tideman, Flemming Borup Andersen, Ulrik Høgsberg, Hans Oksen) won the outdoor championship title in 2022 and then represented Denmark at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022, with Anders Krabbenhøft on camera.

Sequenz also competed at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 in their other Scandinavian neighbor country to the north, Skydive Voss in Norway. Vibeke Birk Tideman, original team member of 2007, was not in the 2023 lineup any longer, and Peter Stræde took her slot.

Peter Stræde missed this year's national outdoor championship, where original Sequenz member Kasper Brandt-Svanekier substituted. Peter Stræde was back for the indoor championship, and the current lineup won with a new team record average.

Dropping Like It's Hot had won the AA Class outdoor competition in July, ten points ahead of Supra. The indoor duel between the same two AA Class teams turned out in reverse order, as Supra won by ten points in Sweden. A new team, with former VAF Warriors member Martin Soeby Mikkelsen in the lineup, placed 2nd between Dropping Like It's Hot and Supra.

Sequenz at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023
A Class outdoor champion Flyverust were facing the same destiny after winning the national outdoor gold medals. New team JaCKeT got in their way to unite the A Class indoor and outdoor championship titles, with a 2-point difference after all ten rounds. The three Swedish teams all competed in the A Class, as well.

The NSL News reported on October 30th how consistent Italy's participation was at outdoor world championship between 1985 and 2018 and that the country had even produced twice the bronze medal winners in 1991 and 2006. Denmark's history in Formation Skydiving competition is almost identical with Italy's.

The countries share the extraordinary accomplishment of winning FAI bronze medals and have both missed only three outdoor world championships of the most recent four events between 2020 and 2024.

Amnesya for Italy and Sequenz for Denmark both competed at the outdoor world cup in Norway last year, and both countries then missed their third participation at an outdoor world championship. Only four countries still have a flawless record of participation (United States, France, Belgium, Netherlands), and the Qatar Tigers have not missed a meet since 2016.
