Only the corona virus crisis interrupted the participation enough, and iFLY Dallas did not have any scores for six months in 2020. Another longer break came earlier in 2018 when the change in leadership caused the interruption for six more months after the last scores and videos were posted in June.
Kyle Hermberg was succeeding Amanda Lampton who had created and managed the first ICL events at iFLY Dallas in 2014. She established the regular position on the monthly ICL leaderboard in 2015. Kyle Hermberg was a regular participant from the very beginnings of the iFLY Dallas team and began assisting Amanda Lampton as a player-coach in 2017.
Kyle Hermberg eventually stepped in as the ICL organizer at iFLY Dallas when Amando Lampton did not continue in 2018. He posted scores and videos for the iFLY Dallas team without missing a month since January 2019, not counting the 6-month break in the middle of the pandemic.
Kyle Hermberg made his first AFF jump in 1995 at Skydive Houston and did not continue after Level 3. Then he made two jumps with Steve Lefkowitz in 2012 and was still not addicted to jumping from planes. Eventually he made a total of 15 jumps at seven different drop zones over a span of 25 years, including two tandems. However, his interest in 4-way training and competition became even stronger after he had met SDC Rhyhtm XP member Steve Lefkowitz, and when the indoor option was becoming increasingly popular and available. Finally he did get addicted to 4-way in 2014 when the iFLY Dallas facility was up and running. He also started attending more of the Rhythm camps, and the monthly ICL events helped him to grow into 4-way training and competition.

He has been enjoying to share his own passion for 4-way and indoor training with other participants. His interest turned into the mission to inspire individual participants and join the 4-way community. He has created and developed several teams in Texas and remembers his own very rewarding experiences as a 4-way competitor and as a coach.
Kyle Hermberg has continued with his mission to help skydivers improve their skills since he began managing the Indoor Cloud League events at iFLY Dallas: "It is a great way to learn. I had some folks fly different slots and also try some slot switchers." The Indoor Cloud League events allow participants to test the 4-way environment without the requirement of a serious commitment at the beginning.
His efforts to support the development of 4-way participation was now rewarded with the SKYDIVER OF THE YEAR award for 2023. Skydiving Magazine's founder Mike Truffer created the award many years before he discontinued editing the very popular print magazine and before dying in a skydiving accident in 2013. He had rewarded skydivers with the trophy who contributed in special ways to the sport.
His Skydiving Magazine partner Sue Clifton decided in 2015 to donate the remaining SKYDIVER OF THE YEAR trophies to Kurt Gaebel of the National Skydiving League, a recipient of the award in 2000. She did not have any requirements for the future use of the awards. The NSL decided to follow Mike Truffer's and Sue Clifton's tradition and dedicated the awards to people in the sport with a similar mission. Lori Connor (2014), Jan Klapka (2015), Ben Liston (2018) and Amer Kassas (2019) have received their trophies since Sue Clifton handed over the trophies to the National Skydiving League. Kyle Hermberg felt honored to receive the award: "It really means a lot to me." The NSL feels honored to have people like him and the other skydivers of the year be connected to the NSL 4-way Network.
