Did You Know...

... that the Weembinamic created once again interesting lineups?

AAA Class awards at the Weembinamic 2024
posted Nov 26th, 2024 - British 4-way and 8-way competitors could have extended their visit at Weembi Lille by two weeks or return to the same place two weeks later to attend the next indoor competition after the British Indoor Nationals 2024. Weembi Lille hosted once again the annual Weembinamic with the event's special elimination format.

All teams first perform four rounds to establish a leaderboard that is the foundation for the next three sets of two rounds (5-6, 7-8, 9-10). Then two or three teams are pitched directly against each other for the elimination rounds. However, it is not really an elimination, as all teams continue to complete a total of ten rounds.

The traditional NSL leaderboard is still showing the performance level after all ten completed rounds. In this case, as most of the times in the past, the leader on the traditional leaderboard is identical with the winner of the last set of two elimination rounds, the finals. Only two British 4-way competitors were back on the 4-way leaderboard and for the elimination rounds. Former Norgies member Pal Kolbenstvedt brought back his two British Dynos team mates, NFTO members Vana Parker and Sian Stokes. Then he replaced Julien Degen with Roy Janssen, and his Weembinamic lineup was complete.

Scavengers Breakers at the Weembinamic 2024
Scavengers Breakers with three Aethers members and Cameron Malie
Scavengers Breakers, winner of the Weembinamic format and on the traditional leaderboard, were out of reach for all and at any time with their three Aethers members (Tom Mattoni, Mathieu Quizy, Alban Rumolo) and Cameron Malie, who had placed 2nd with Aerokart Ak'demie behind Arizona Airspeed at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 with a 31.7 average, together with Aethers members Tom Mattoni and Mathieu Quizy.

The Dynos finished officially in 2nd place of the Weembinamic, even though they were in 4th place on the traditional leaderboard. They had defeated Zip Le Pingouin's unchanged lineup of the FS Weembi Cup in April this year in the first two elimination rounds (5/6) even though the French team finished five points ahead after all ten rounds.

The Dynos were then spared a stronger opponent in the next two elimination rounds (7/8). Yasuki finished in 6th place on the traditional leaderboard, 17 points behind the Dynos, who made it to the final two rounds against the official winner of the Weembinamic format and on the traditional leaderboard, the Scavengers Breakers. The official 2nd place for the Dynos was even more fortunate, as the teams in the official 3rd and 4th places of the Weembinamic were ahead on the traditional leaderboard, and they also both outscored the Dynos in the last two elimination rounds (9/10). Monaco in 5th place tied the Dynos in the same two last rounds.

Aethers at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2024
Zip Le Pingouin, officially in 5th place, even managed to steal the last round of the event with the highest scoring number of 47 points in Round 10, where they had to defeat the Monaco team to finish in 5th place. This duel for the last two rounds was even more interesting, as Noe Mattoni competed with both teams.

His father Stéphane Mattoni and his brother Tom Mattoni were both in the Monaco lineup, together with Cameron Malie, who was also Tom Mattoni's team mate in the winning Scavengers Breakers. Two more members of the Aethers (Mathieu Quizy, Alban Rumolo), French national indoor and outdoor team and silver medalists at the outdoor world championship at Crystal Coast, completed the lineup of the Scavengers Breakers.

Yasuke had a similar fortunate journey into the duel for the 3rd place as the Dynos. They finished in 6th place and made it to the official 4th place. The duel for the 3rd place between Yasuke and U.S. team Killers of Hopes and Dreams became an affair of reigning and former world champions. Moulay Abbas, who has hired world class player-coaches for his lineups since 2015, brought Roy Janssen (NMP PCH HayaBusa of 2014), Michele Silvi (NMP PCH HayaBusa of 2021) to this year's Weembinamic, and Italy's bronze medal winner of 2006, Livio Piccolo, completed the lineup. They had to take on Jeana Billings and Kirk Verner, world champions in 4-way Women, 4-way Open and 8-way. Jill Stephenson and Ian Pedowitz completed this U.S. lineup and won the duel for the 3rd place.
