Did You Know...

... that Airdrops and WingX travel to Netherlands and Spain for their world meet qualification?

Danish 4-way teams in Sweden
posted Dec 9th, 2024 - It is not unusual any longer that national indoor championship are hosted by windtunnels in a different country. The NSL News reported on November 6th that 4-way teams from Denmark had to travel to Sweden if they wanted to compete at the indoor nationals.

The travel distance to the national indoor championship was even longer for British 4-way teams who competed for their medals and positions at Weembi Lille in France, as the update on November 17th explained. The next event that is nationally meaningful for visiting teams from a different country was the ISR Grand Prix 2024, and the Wind Games in Spain will also include a foreign qualification for the next indoor world championship at Paraclete XP in April next year.

The NSL News reported on December 6th that two 4-way Women teams from Switzerland, Airdrops and WingX, had traveled to Roosendaal in the Netherlands where they finished very close to each other. The Swiss 4-way Women duel caught the attention of the NSL News, while the whole story of the competition was not known at that time. Airdrops kindly provided more background information, which added even more exciting competition news to the same story after the completion of the eight rounds in the Netherlands.

Airdrops - WingX at the ISR Grand Prix 2024
British 4-way teams in France
There was a good reason why Airdrops and WingX traveled to the Netherlands first and will follow up with the next trip to Spain where they attend the Wind Games at the end of January. Both events include the qualification for the indoor world championship, where one of the two teams will most likely represent Switzerland.

Swiss teams competed in their own country's flying chamber in Winterthur in March this year, where the same two 4-way Women teams were facing each other, as the NSL News reported on March 22nd. However, the time period between a similar date in 2025 and the scheduled indoor world championship is probably too short for accommodating an official qualification at the national event.

Federation and teams agreed with a special qualification format that includes the results at the ISR Grand Prix 2024 and at the Wind Games 2025. The team with the highest average at any of the two events earns the right to represent Switzerland at Paraclete XP in April. The first of the two events has been completed, and both teams knew about the relevance of the scores in Roosendaal. Airdrops are in the lead at the moment.

Airdrops at the Wind Games 2024
Swiss team WingX in Roosendaal 2023
The 2-point advantage for Airdrops at the ISR Grand Prix it is only a temporary lead, and everything is still possible at the Wind Games. However, the pressure is on WingX who have to win the second leg of the qualification to have a chance.

WingX also have to defeat the 19.9 average that Airdrops posted at the end of the eight rounds in Roosendaal. Finishing ahead of their opponent below the 19.9 average level would not be enough to qualify as the national indoor team for the world championship.

Both teams have more than enough time to train for the next qualification event in Spain at the end of January. Airdrops have already posted 20+ averages three times, last time at the Swiss national indoor championship in March this year. WingX are familiar with the same pace after their 20.8 average in the AA Class competition at the ISR Grand Prix in November 2023. There is a very good chance that both teams will finish with new team record averages at the Wind Games after their preparations before the next trip to Spain. Any 20+ average at the Wind Games will overrule the results at the ISR Grand Prix, and the final placement on the Spanish leaderboard will probably be the actual qualifier. The Swiss stakes in 4-way Women will be set high at the Wind Games.
