Did You Know...

... that Airspeed's Niklas Hemlin has a message for the NSL News audience?

4-way world champions in Dubai 2012: Arizona Airspeed
posted Dec 26th, 2024 - The NSL Profile of Niklas Hemlin was published on 5 September 2019, a week before the USPA National Championship 2019 began at Skydive Paraclete XP.

His impressive skydiving competition career has been documented comprehensively by the NSL News, and it included all the drama that any competition brings to the participants. The 11-round battle with SDC Rhythm XP in 2019 that followed the publication of the NSL Profile probably still exceeded even his own previous experiences.

He was already a 4-way world champion in 2019, after the dramatic 10-round battle with NMP PCH HayaBusa in Dubai 2012, which ended with a 1-point advantage for Arizona Airspeed (279 - 278). The battle with the Belgians in Dubai was probably one of the most exciting competitions in Formation Skydiving history, and the national championship in 2019 offered even more with the extra round. The outcome of the USPA Nationals 2019 almost turned the whole NSL Profile story of Niklas Hemlin upside down. The opponent of Dubai 2012 was far out of reach for both U.S. teams in 2019, and Arizona Airspeed ended up in 2nd place after the jump-off with SDC Rhythm XP. Airspeed would not be the national 4-way team for the next world championship. However, the 2019 drama might have turned the NSL Profile story upside down, but surely not Niklas Hemlin's competition career.

In fact, the dramatic event in 2019 was probably a reason for Niklas Hemlin, together with Mikhail Markine, to even increase their efforts. They turned the heavy loss of 2019 into one of the most successful time periods in Airspeed history and dominated the world's 4-way competition in the following four years just as much as NMP PCH HayaBusa did between 2014 and 2021, or even more. The new 2020 lineup, with Joey Marshall and Chris Kuhlmann, barely had any serious opponents and won world championships, world cups, and any relevant events by unusual margins.

The most recent Airspeed time period has been documented comprehensively with regular NSL News updates, while Niklas Hemlin's profile story had not even covered the results of the 2019 drama. It still made sense, as Niklas Hemlin had already been overdue for his place in the NSL Profiles, with or without any new and additional world championship titles. The order of steps in his competition career quickly fell back into sync with the NSL News and the profile story. The arguably heaviest loss in 2019 was followed by four extremely successful years and two more 4-way gold medals. Niklas Hemlin also built his brand name in the coaching business to the highest level in the same time period, and he was well prepared to step away from intensive 4-way training and competition when he and Mikhail Markine announced their retirement from Arizona Airspeed competition.
