posted Dec 28th, 2024 - The story of Niklas Hemlin's NSL Profile was recently updated with links to NSL News and NSL Live Talk. The content was mostly related to the athletic part of the sport and Niklas Hemlin's impressive career as a Formation Skydiving competitor.

Jan Klapka's NSL Profile story begins with a paragraph that is pointing out the actual meaning of the NSL Profiles: "The special people who get their place on the NSL Profiles pages are not only world champions, even though there are many of them, who surely deserve the attention and the credit. There are many passionate skydivers who have dedicated almost their whole lives to the sport, not only to become a world champion, and Jan Klapka from the Czech Republic is one of them."

Jan Klapka's profile was published in October 2016, 30 years after he had joined his first 4-way team. He dedicated his life to skydiving a decade later, when he left behind a bakery in Prague and opened the Parashop, which is located in Prelouc, Czech Republic. He had already established his country as a regular participant in the international Formation Skydiving community when his NSL Profile was published, and there were more than enough reasons to credit him for the unlimited efforts that he and his wife Jirina Klapkova had invested into the sport, especially 4-way Formation Skydiving competition.

The NSL News did not know by then that this was only the beginning of Jan Klapka's visionary journey that still continues. He had more in mind than just bringing Czech 4-way competition to the highest level. The original profile story covers parts of this vision and his goals.

He understood quickly the benefits of the Hurricane Factory after it was opened in 2011, due to his regular trips to Bodyflight Bedford for winter training. He began to use the indoor facilities in Prague intensively to accelerate the progress of his plans. It was no big surprise that the first official FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship was hosted by the Hurricane Factory in Prage.

Jan Klapka's own team, Bad Boys, the Czech 4-way champions at that time, were not the only Czech 4-way team on the AAA Class leaderboard. FAI/ISC permitted two of his 4-way junior teams to be guest teams at the first indoor world championship. HF Junior Zeleny and HF Junior Zluti had to perform the AAA Class sequences to appear on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard. FAI/ISC had officially sanctioned the new 4-way Junior category, which used the AA Class dive pool and rules. However, no other 4-way Junior teams were registered for the event, as the French delegation had signed up their own 4-way juniors of the Aerokart Ak'demie program for the Clash of Champions instead, where three NSL categories (AAA - AA - A) would be applied.

HF Junior Zeleny and HF Junior Zluti posted their scores on the AAA Class leaderboard and stepped back down to A/AA Class competition after the indoor world championship, and Jan Klapka continued with 4-way junior school that had already been in full swing since shortly after the opening of the Hurricane Factory.

The value of his efforts for the development of the sport was once again credited when he was awarded the Skydiver Of The Year 2015 trophy at the end of the 2016 season. HF Junior Zeleny had grown into the HF Cubs in the meantime and staid together until they won the first world championship title for the Czech Republic in 4-way Junior at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2019.

The HF Cubs followed up with gold medals in 4-way Women at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022. The success of Jan Klapka's 4-way Junior program increased the participation in his 4-way school and has been one of the most consistent topics for the NSL News. The progression of his program since 2016 is not even a part of his NSL Profile story, and the update has been overdue. The peak of his amazing efforts is in sight by now. His ultimate goal, the top level in 4-way outdoor competition for a Czech team, is in the works, as former members of his 4-way school program are progressing quickly after their transition to outdoor training and competition. Skywalkers Junior are far ahead of any other Czech 4-way teams in the past and begin to challenge the world's top performers, while Jan Klapka continues to generate new 4-way competitors year by year.
