Did You Know...

... that the Airbus 4-way team launches the 2025 season with a new lineup?

Thomas Mack with Airbus/EADS 4-way in 2012
posted Jan 4th, 2025 - The NSL News continues with updates from Germany, which are related to 4-way this time. Germany has always been a relevant player in Formation Skydiving competition, with regular participation at the international events. The two third places in 8-way at the previous two outdoor world championships in 2022 and 2024 has naturally initiated an increased NSL News coverage of the development in Germany.

The national 4-way teams of the country, Airbus Oceanside Illertissen and Meltemi Oceanside Illertissen, have not won FAI medals yet, while they are still heavily involved in the competition for the closest positions right behind the medal winners. Airbus has been a challenger for the unofficial amateur world championship title in 2022 and 2024 where they placed 8th (2022) and 6th (2024) with the same lineup. Meltemi placed 4th at the same two events.

Thomas Mack has been the outside center for the Airbus 4-way team since 2012, and he has also been in the Airbus 8-way lineups between 2012 and 2018, as the overview on 31 December 2024 was showing. He re-built the Airbus 4-way lineup in 2019 when Markus Bastuck, Goeran Meyer and Joern Thiele did not continue. Sarah Mertes, Alexander Prendinger were his new 4-way team mates, and he still had Andreas Trögele on camera. Felix Pfeiffer filled the open slot beginning in 2020. The new lineup won the national championships consecutively since 2021 and represented Germany in 4-way Open in Eloy 2022 and Crystal Coast 2024. This lineup has now come to an end, and Airbus announced the changes with the beginning of the new year.

2024 has been a great and “sad” year in the same way. Great because we won German Nationals again for the 4th consecutive time and competed at the World Meet in Beaufort, North Carolina, USA representing Germany ending up with an good 6th place and a 19,0 average. Sad because round number 10 of the World Meet was the last jump of the team in the configuration of the past 5 years. As we reported already we decided to continue and started training with our coach Michele Silvi for two camps to bring Tim Mack in the game and not to lose time until we have found our 4th team member. 2025 has a good start as we can announce that AIRBUS 4-way is complete again! On December 28th and 29th we held a “tryout” camp with our new member after which we all came to the conclusion that we want to take the challenge together as a team ?? So we are happy to welcome Claire Rebhahn to the AIRBUS 4-way team! We are currently working on our schedule as we need to work around Tim’s exams at university a bit but are quite optimistic that we can manage that very well. Looks like we can achieve a 300+ jumps year combined with 12 hours of tunnelflying roughly. Most probably we will start the outdoor season in April with a 2 week camp in the USA to set up a good basis for the season and our progress. We plan to jump the Paranodon Cup in June and for sure German Nationals in September. We are looking forward to work together as a team and the entire process. Goals remain the same as in the past ?? Thanks to our coaches Solly Williams and Michele Silvi for the support in the last year and we are looking forward to continue to work with you guys with the new lineup in the 2025 season again! Also thank you to our families, friends and everybody who supported us - you are incredible! And a huge thank you very much to Sarah Mertes and Alexander Prendinger, our former teammates, for your dedication to the team over the last years! It was incredible fun to go this path together and we had great times.

Claire Rebhahn and Tim Mack are replacing Sarah Mertes and Alex Prendinger. Tim Mack continues in his outside center slot, and Felix Pfeiffer switches from tail to inside center in the rear piece. Tim Mack takes the point slot for Sarah Mertes and will complete the front piece with his father Thomas Mack. Claire Rebhahn is leaving Meltemi and switches from 4-way Women to 4-way Open in the same slot that she had with Germany's national team in 4-way Women.

The new front piece is probably not a big surprise, as Tim Mack was already close to the team, and not only due to his family connection. He was filming the Airbus 4-way team to the 6th place at the 26th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships in October last year.

He was only filling the open camera slot at Crystal Coast, without the intention of making this a permanent position. In fact, he was competing twice with Teiwaz in the point slot last year, including the national outdoor championship in September. He had one test in the camera slot for Airbus at the ESL Championship 2024, where Airbus confirmed him, before he traveled to North Carolina with Airbus and his father. All four members of the new Airbus lineup actually competed in the AAA Class competition of the German Nationals 2024, Thomas Mack and Felix Pfeiffer with Airbus, Claire Rebhahn with Meltemi, who placed right behind Airbus in 2nd place, Tim Mack with Teiwaz Cirkus. They all continued at Crystal Coast with their respective teams, Tim Mack now on camera for Airbus. He was finally recruited for the open point slot and will continue the Airbus mission of winning the unofficial amateur world championship title and break through the 20-average benchmark.
