Did You Know...

... that Skywalkers Junior rotate their five team members?

Skywalkers Junior and HF Chameleons at the Czech Open Indoor 2024
posted Jan 14th, 2025 - The NSL News has followed the development of the Czech 4-way team Skywalkers Junior since the team members started with 4-way training and competition when they were junior students in Jan Klapka's 4-way school at the Hurricane Factory in Prague. The Skywalkers Junior members have grown to become the national indoor and outdoor team in 4-way Open, and they are aiming at the highest goals in the sport.

However, there are still a few goals on the national level on their way to the higher targets, which could be accomplished this coming weekend. Skywalkers are the national 4-way outdoor champions in the Czech Republic, while they still have not won the indoor championship title. The Czech Open Indoor Championship this weekend offers the second opportunity since the team was founded in 2023.

The team members of Skywalkers Junior were still competing with HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons at the national indoor championship of 2023, where the 4-way Women team HF Cubs won the AAA Class competition. Skywalkers Junior won the national outdoor championship title half a year later with the new combined and rotating 5-way lineup of Flying Rebels (Michal Mikulisek, Krystof Rulf, Martin Stransky) and Chameleons (Filip Lukavec, Antonin Ondracek). Skywalkers Junior missed the indoor championship title in January 2024, when the HF Chameleons were coming to the end of their 4-way junior career, with Filip Lukavec still in the lineup, and they peaked at the event. Skywalkers Junior, with Michal Mikolasek for Filip Lukavec, posted their highest meet average, as well, which was still two points short of the Chameleons (254 - 256).

Rotating 5-way team: Skywalkers Junior
HF Chameleons discontinued after the conclusion of the 2024 indoor season in April, Filip Lukavec and Antonin Ondracek joined forces with their former opponents of the HF Flying Rebels. They won their second outdoor championship title last year with a new Czech record average and no serious opposition.

Skywalkers Junior have not scored higher yet than the HF Chameleons in January 2024. Only Filip Lukavec is actually a reigning and defending national indoor champion when Skywalkers Junior enter the 14-foot flying chamber of the Hurricane Factory this weekend. He will try to defend his title with the his current team mates Krystof Rulf, Martin Stransky and Antonin Ondracek.

The five Skywalkers Junior usually rotate through training and competition. Michal Mikulisek and Filip Lukavec share a slot, and they settle with one lineup only for the most relevant events. All five team members were in the active lineup for different rounds throughout the January competition of the Czech Tunnel League. Michal Mikulisek will be on the bench and compete with other teams at the upcoming indoor championship. Skywalkers Junior will have the 25.6 average of the HF Chameleons as another target besides the first national indoor championship title, and they will have to set their goal even higher to reach the record average at Czech national indoor championships.

HF Chameleons - Skywalkers Junior at the Czech Indoor Open 2024
Czech all-time indoor record averages: HF Cubs
The all-female lineup of the HF Cubs dominated Czech indoor competition between 2000 and 2023. They won three consecutive times and increased the record average at each event before the 27.0 at the national indoor championship of 2023. The Skywalkers Junior members were still 4-way juniors when the HF Cubs won the 4-way Women competition at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022.

Skywalkers Junior have not been close yet to the same level where HF Cubs performed in 4-way Women. However, they still have a few years to match their scores and averages within the same time frame, and they may even get their quicker. The scores this weekend will tell more about the progression.

Jan Klapka's Bad Boys were the first Czech national indoor champions in 2016 and dominated indoor competition for three years and before HF Flying Circus took over. HF Cubs then set new standards in Czech 4-way indoor competition, and Skywalkers Junior plan the same for indoor and outdoor competition both. Several former and current Czech indoor and outdoor champions will offer opposition to Skywalkers Junior this upcoming weekend in different teams and lineups. Skywalkers Junior then continue with their preparations for the indoor world championship in April.
