Did You Know...

... that the new Block 20 was part of the SkyVenture New Hampshire competition?

Chicken Bolts 2025 with Kim Hollander
posted Feb 10th, 2025 - This year's indoor competition at SkyVenture New Hampshire had lower attendance than in January 2024, despite the comeback after the corona virus break in 2022 (13), promising 26 teams in 2023 and the 19 teams last year.

However, it was still a special event for a very different reason. Jim Rees, U.S. delegate and current member of the ISC Formation Skydiving Committee, had just returned from the annual ISC Plenary Meeting, this year in Rome, Italy, and he was the chief judge and administrator at SkyVenture New Hampshire less than a week later.

The NSL News had given the potential changes of the dive pool a lot of attention in the run-up to the meeting of the ISC delegates in Italy, last time on January 24th. There was a lot of opposition to any changes for many reasons, which were well documented. However, Jim Rees returned from the ISC meeting with the approval of one of the two suggested changes. Block 8 (Canadian T - Canadian T) remains unchanged, while Block 20 (Piver - Viper) was completely replaced by a new version of Zipper - Zipper, which was Block 12 with a different slot-switching maneuver years ago. The NSL News had presented the suggested dive pool changes with the update on January 20th.

Chicken Bolts at SkyVenture New Hampshire - Block 20 Old and New
SNE Fly Girls in 2023
This year's SkyVenture New Hampshire indoor competition eventually became the first 4-way event where the AAA Class teams performed the new block maneuver. It was a voluntary situation for the AAA Class teams, who were allowed the opportunity by the meet director to decide whether they preferred to perform the old or the new version of Block 20.

Ben Liston was not the meet director this time, after many years of organizing the event. He still participated as a competitor, even though he was just filling a slot for Chicken Bolts. Jennifer Cook and Monique Lai are actually planning to recruit a new 4-way Women team, together with Kim Hollander, who was in the lineup at SkyVenture New Hampshire. Former Chicken Bolts member Doug Hendrix is now with Arizona Airspeed, and Ben Liston came back to help out.

Chicken Bolts with last weekend's lineup were one of the three AAA Class teams who decided to check out the new Block 20 (Zipper - Zipper), while the two other teams performed the previous version (Piver - Viper). Jennifer Cook and Monique Lai won the AAA Class with Chicken Bolts and earned their 4th consecutive victory, after two 1st places with SNE Fly Girls in 2002 and 2003, followed by Chicken Bolts in 2024 and 2025. They will probably have to perform the new version of Block 20 soon again at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2025.
