Did You Know...

... that Sonic started with the French Aethers Medjay at Paraclete XP?

Damien Gouriou and Alban Rumolo with previous 4-way lineup
posted Feb 21st, 2025 - The NSL News mentioned on February 17th that NSL Live Talk interviews and NSL TV Unfiltered videos will have a different anchor at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2025. Kamuran "Sonic" Bayrasli, legendary former team videographer and biggest fan of Ranch 2nd Generation, will be on the other side of the camera and hold a microphone in his hand.

He was already in full action on Thursday, one of the two last training days before Round 1 on Saturday morning, and he has covered all four R2G members who were in the lineup when he was still behind the freefall camera. Michelle Karamon and Brenn Richards were in conversation with Sonic for NSL Live Talk with Tunnel Vision, Joey Marshall and Chris Kuhlmann with Arizona Airspeed.

However, the first NSL Live Talk session was a surprising one. The French national team in 4-way Open, Aethers Medjay, decided to follow up on the Wind Games 2025 with a trip to North Carolina and take on the best U.S. teams on their home turf at Paraclete XP. They had left any opposition in the dust in Spain, including Tunnel Vision and Golden Knights, and they take on Arizona Airspeed and SDC Rhythm XP this weekend, as well. Sonic caught them during the same training day, and the young team agreed to spend time with him for NSL Live Talk.

New French 4-way Open Class lineup in 2022
It is the same Aethers lineup that national coach Mathieu Bernier selected for the 2022 season, after the 4th place at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 in August 2021. Damien Gouriou and Alban Rumolo continued with the national team in 4-way Open, Tom Mattoni and Mathieu Quizy completed the lineup as new and very young members.

Still teenager by then, Tom Mattoni remembered that is was the first international FAI/ISC outdoor competition for him and Mathieu Quizy, and there was a lot to learn. The new lineup, which is identical with the current one, ended up once again in 4th place. It was only the third time since 1985 that the French delegation left a world championship without any medals in 4-way Open.

However, national coach Mathieu Bernier believed in the potential of this lineup, and he was proven correct with his assessment. Aethers Medjay worked their way up to the 2nd place at the 26th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships, half a year after outside center Tom Mattoni broke his leg and had to sit out for months. Team and coach were finally rewarded for their work and persistence when Arizona Airspeed had to recruit a new lineup, and France took back the 4-way world's top spot. Sonic had to find out that Aethers Medjay have no intentions of resting or slowing down, when they explained their plans for the near future.
