Did You Know...

... that China's 4-way Women team may check the 4-way Open Class leaderboard again?

China 4-way Women at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024
posted Mar 18th, 2025 - The first NSL Power Rankings in 4-way Women for the FAI Indoor World Championship 2025 is very similar in the medal rankings, compared to the 4-way Open Class competition. Aerthers Medjay (FR) and China's 4-way Women lineup are most likely out of reach for any other teams, while there will be competition for the two other sets of FAI medals.

Arizona Airspeed (US) and NMP PCH HayaBusa (BE) seem to be close enough for a good battle in 4-way Open. XPG4 (US) and Nephtys (FR) will probably be in a similar situation in 4-way Women. NMP PCH HayaBusa compete with the complete current lineup against Arizona Airspeed with substitute Niklas Hemlin and new member Doug Hendrix in the tail slot. XPG4 and Nephtys both have new lineups for the indoor world championship, and the outcome of this duel is probably just as unpredictable as in 4-way Open.

The NSL News reported on February 26th that XPG4's two 4-way Women outdoor world champions, Michelle Karamon and Brenn Richards, have recruited former XPG4 member Anna Brunner and new member Laura Galdamez for the indoor competition next month. French national coach Mathieu Bernier has registered a new lineup for the Nephtys, as well. The NSL News had introduced the French national team in 4-way Women with the update on February 19th. Pamela Lissajoux and Clementine Le Bohec, 4-way Women world champion team mates of 2018 join forces with Alexandra Petitjean and Marie Pineau.

The expected winners in the two horizontal 4-way events, Aethers Medjay in 4-way Open, China in 4-way Women, will probably not be challenged by teams in their own respective 4-way categories. However, they may look across the separate leaderboards and find themselves on a similar scoring level. Aethers Medjay had finished with a 31.9 average in April 2024, China's 4-way Women lineup with 30.5 at the same event with the same competition draw.

As usual, the NSL News will offer the combined leaderboard of all AAA Class teams, which could create an additional exciting situation at Paraclete XP.

The situation behind the two expected top teams and the other medal contenders in both categories is less competitive in 4-way Women, where only two more countries registered their national teams for the indoor world championship. The race for the 4th place in 4-way Open has the potential to become the highlight of this category, and there could be overlapping highscores for single rounds between all teams behind Aethers Medjay. The two additional 4-way Women teams may not hurt each other too much and are too far behind the medal positions for a chance to steal a round from XPG4 or Nephtys. The Swiss team Airdrops are expected to secure the 4th place, and the 4-way Women team from Singapore will probably finish at the bottom of the small leaderboard.

Aethers Medjay - China 4-way Women at the Swiss Indoor Nationals 2025
Swiss national team in 4-way Women: Airdrops
The Swiss national team in 4-way Women, Airdrops, had to go through a special qualification procedure, as the NSL News reported on 9 December 2024. Airdrops had won Switzerland's Indoor Nationals 2024, nine points ahead of the second Swiss 4-way Women team, WingX.

It was close enough that both teams and the federation agreed to have a new qualification procedure for the indoor world championship at Paraclete XP next month. The NSL News covered the new qualification procedure with the update on 9 December 2024, after Airdrops won the first duel by two points at the ISR Grand Prix 2024.

Airdrops then traveled to Spain and competed at the Wind Games 2025 to confirm the qualification status. WingX did not attend the event, and Airdrops became the official national team in 4-way Women for the indoor world championship. WingX were back in competition action last weekend when Switzerland held their national indoor championship and finished ahead of Airdrops. However, the qualification for the indoor world championship at Paraclete XP in April was concluded, and Airdrops are ready to show up in North Carolina for their first major FAI/ISC competition.
