Did You Know...

... that Germany features a new battle for national indoor and outdoor medals?

Piteraq/Chicas members reunion at the German Indoor Nationals 2025
posted Mar 19th, 2025 - The NSL News covered the duel between the two former German 4-way Women teams Piteraq und der Zauberlehrling and Skynamite&Friends comprehensively with the update on March 11th. Skynamite were only a guest team at the German Indoor Nationals 2025, and Piteraq are the new German 4-way indoor champions.

The Piteraq lineup included former Airbus member Alexander Prendinger who did not continue with Germany's national outdoor team in 4-way Open after his six years with Airbus Illertissen Oceanside. His former team were actually the reigning German indoor champions of 2024. The new Airbus lineup did not try to defend their title, which Alexander Prendinger then did successfully with Piteraq.

The highly experienced Brusler Talentschmiede had taken the 2nd place behind Airbus in 2024 and missed this year's indoor championship, as well. The absence of the two teams allowed Piteraq members Petra Jastram and Linda Koeb to move up from their 3rd place last year with Meltemi Oceanside Illertissen to the top spot last month. All other German 4-way teams shared the opportunity with Meltemi/Piteraq, as two medal positions were still available behind the winning lineup with current and former members of Germany's national team team in 4-way Women and 4-way Open.

Fi4na - Paratus at the German Indoor Nationals 2025
Chicas at the Malevsky Cup 2006
Several candidates were lined up behind the two former 4-way Women teams on the top of the leaderboard to compete for the two sets of German AAA Class medals, as Skynamite was registered only as a guest team with their Swiss member Marco Keller. It was a field of four teams who were in contention for the 2nd and 3rd places this time, after finishing in lower positions on the German AAA Class leaderboards of the past years.

Fi4na and Paratus eventually distanced themselves with new team record averages from Dark NeVa (4th) and Feierabendflieger (5th), who increased their scoring and performance level, as well. The Dark NeVa lineup included once again new Airbus 8-way member Henning Stumpp, while Operation Adler's Olaf Biedermann competed with Feierabendflieger.

The final duel between Fi4na and Paratus was almost a copy of the situation a year ago, when the same two teams had a 1-point battle for the 6th place. Wintertunnel came back this year with a new team name, Fi4na, and the same two teams competed for the German AAA Class medals behind Piteraq this time. The new German indoor silver medalists were formed in 2019, after team members Ralf Bissbort and Jupp Kampmann both did not continue with NeVa and launched their own new 4-way team, Wintertunnel, with Daniela Sickendiek and Marion Thomas in the original lineup. Wintertunnel was formed as an indoor team, even though the team members were also outdoor competitors.

German AA Class champions of 2023: Paratus
Marion Thomas is a former member of Chicas who competed for Germany in 4-way Women at several FAI/ISC events until 2018. She did not continue with outdoor training and competition, and Wintertunnel recruited Simone Kaster to complete the new lineup and make plans for Germany's national outdoor championship, as well.

Former Airbus and new Operation Adler member Thomas Spielvogel has been coaching Fi4na successfully to the 2nd place at the national indoor championship. He was also competing at the indoor championship (Operation Radler), together with his 8-way opponents Uli Sehrbrock and Karin Bauch. The 4-way and 8-way veterans of Operation Radler could not keep up with Fi4na and finished far behind the two contenders for the indoor 4-way medals.

The more serious challenge of Fi4na came once again from Paratus, after the 1-point indoor battle last year, and both teams will probably have a re-match at the national outdoor championship, as Paratus compete in both environments, as well. They won the German Outdoor Nationals in the AA Class of 2023, after taking the indoor title the same year. They moved up to AAA Class competition last year and met Wintertunnel at the indoor championship. Both teams then skipped the outdoor championship and were back with new indoor and outdoor plans for 2025. Fi4na won the first duel of the year, and the same two teams will most likely follow up with their first outdoor battle. The first outdoor medals could be in reach, as well.
